Abstract:
A device and methods for testing and quantifying the kink resistance of a hose. The device has the ability to simultaneously test a plurality of hoses at equal amounts of twist or torque while water or other fluid is pumped through the hoses. The device can monitor one or more of the flow rate of fluid through a hose, fluid backpressure from a pressure source, torque and degrees of hose twist.
Abstract:
Halogen free flame retardant thermoplastic elastomer compositions including a hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer having relatively high styrene or mono alkenyl arene content and styrene or mono alkenyl arene in each block. Surprisingly, the compositions contain low amounts or are free of plasticizing softeners. The compositions include a blend of non-halogen flame retardants including a liquid phosphorous-containing component and a solid secondary component. The compositions are suitable for extrusion or molding and are useful for films or wire and cable applications.
Abstract:
The use of polytetrafluoroethylene micropowders having a particle size of generally less than about 20 microns as an additive for polyvinyl chloride or polyolefin unexpectedly produces compositions which are melt processable. Other unexpected properties include that the micropowder is deformable under shear and acts as a flame retardant.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic polymer alloy compositions including a blend of polymers that each contribute beneficial properties to the compositions. The compositions exhibit characteristics desirable for outdoor applications such as weatherability, impact resistance and durability, while offering excellent surface appearance. The compositions are particularly suitable for decking applications and as capstock materials.
Abstract:
A preblend of one or more pigments and one or more polymers derived from ethylene monomers and α-olefin monomers when added to polyethylene unexpectedly results in high improvements in impact strength with regard to rotationally molded products as compared to the same products not blended with any preblend. The result is a cost effective, high impact resistant polyethylene that is a physical, dry color blend.
Abstract:
Thermoplastic elastomer compositions, in particular derived from one or more styrenic block copolymers wherein at least one styrenic block copolymer comprises a controlled distribution copolymer block including a conjugated diene and a mono alkenyl arene, a plurality of biorenewable materials, preferably a softener and one or more synergistic additives such as a polar polymer; a synergistic block copolymer such as a relatively high molecular weight styrenic block copolymer; and/or filler. Numerous desirable articles can be formed from the compositions. Processes for preparing the compositions and articles are disclosed.
Abstract:
A hose assembly, preferably a garden hose assembly, including a jacketed tube that is lightweight, durable and versatile. The tube is able to expand longitudinally along the length-wise axis of the hose between hose ends, as well as radially or circumferentially, to an expanded state in response to application of at least a minimum fluid pressure to an inner tube of the hose. Once the fluid pressure falls below the minimum fluid pressure, the hose assembly will contract. The two layer construction of the hose assembly allows for storage in relatively compact spaces, similar flow rates, approximately one-half the weight, and improved maneuverability when compared to conventional hose constructions. In one embodiment the jacket is formed around the tube in a continuous process that welds a material, preferably using hot air, into the jacket. The welded joint forms a region of jacket that is preferably about twice the thickness of the rest of the jacket. This thicker region results in a stiffer section of jacket that makes the hose more controllable and consistent in use.
