    Abstract: A process for preparing granular water soluble alkali metal borate compositions by agitating a finely divided feedstock comprising a water soluble alkali metal borate and optionally boric acid, the molar ratio of alkali metal oxide to boric oxide in the feedstock being from about 0.1 to 0.5:1, optionally heating the agitated feedstock particles, contacting the agitated feedstock particles with an aqueous granulating agent to agglomerate feedstock particles, and recovering a granular borate composition having an average particle size of at least 250 micro meters. The resultant granulated product has a higher bulk density and better water dissolution rate than the feedstock particles.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a flexible container. In an embodiment, the flexible container incudes an outer bag and a liner positioned within in the outer bag. The liner substantially corresponds to the outer flexible bag. The outer bag and the liner each include (i) a body having a sidewall, (ii) a top panel, and (iii) a bottom panel. The sidewall has a height, a top end, and an opposing bottom end. The top panel extends from the sidewall top end and an inlet extends from the top panel. The bottom panel extends from the sidewall bottom end and an elongated discharge spout extends from the bottom panel. The outer bag elongated discharge spout and the liner elongated discharge spout each have a length from 0.40 times to 1.0 times the height of the respective outer bag sidewall and the liner sidewall. The present disclosure also provides a material discharge assembly for removing flowable granular material from the flexible container.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a process. In an embodiment, the process includes providing a boric acid solution composed of from 10 wt % to 25 wt % boric acid at a temperature from 60° C. to less than 100° C. to form a heated boric acid solution. The process includes first passing the heated boric acid solution through a first nanofiltration membrane at a pressure from 300 psi to 500 psi to form a first heated boron permeate and second passing the first heated boron permeate through a second nanofiltration membrane at a pressure from 300 psi to 500 psi and forming a second heated boron permeate. The second heated boron permeate is composed of at least 10 wt % boric acid, less than 5 ppm sodium, and less than 5 ppm of a component selected from calcium, lithium, sulfur, and silicon.

    Abstract: The invention provides compositions and methods for preventing and treating osteochondrosis, lameness, and leg weakness by administration of supplemental boron and vitamin C containing compounds to animals and humans. The supplemental boron and vitamin C containing compounds are provided in animal feed compositions or as supplements for animal feed. Also provided by this invention are animal feed compositions that are supplemented with boron and vitamin C containing compounds and which have reduced phosphorus content. The invention also provides a method for decreasing the amount of phosphorus excreted by an animal, a method of increasing the efficiency of absorption of phosphorus by an animal, a method of reducing environmental phosphorus pollution by administering supplemental boron and vitamin C to the animal. The invention also provides a method of reducing pre-weaning mortality in an animal by feeding pregnant, nursing or lactating animals by administering supplemental boron and vitamin C containing compounds.
