Abstract: A call origination apparatus using images and a method thereof are provided to present an abbreviated dialing function using images by enabling a user to select a displayed image and to make a call to a phone number equivalent to the selected image. A call origination apparatus using images comprises a touch screen(122), a memory part(102), and a control part(100). The touch screen displays one or more images at image areas. The memory part stores one or more images together with corresponding phone numbers. In case a touch input is made for a specific image area corresponding to an arbitrary image displayed on the touch screen, the control part executes call origination using a phone number corresponding to the image. Based on an environment setup request for an image dialing mode, the control part stores an image arrangement type and a matrix structure about the number of images to be displayed on the touch screen in the memory part.
