Abstract: The conductor comprises a core wire and a surface coating of the same type of material, the coating pref. being of higher purity material. Also claimed are (1) prodn. of a conductor by vapour phase coating the surface of a core wire of electrically conductive matterial with the same type of material; and (ii) products of process (i). The conductor is useful as a bonding wire for connecting semiconductor elements, a conductor for use in acoustic and image-forming appliances, or as a magnet wire. The conductor has lower cost than conductors made completely of high purity metal, has good drawability for prodn. of thin wire, maintains good bonding properties and allows good quality sound and image prodn.
