    Abstract: The use of an alternating current (ac) source to power logic circuitry can support satisfactory device performance for a variety of applications, while enhancing long-term stability of the circuitry. For example, when organic thin film transistor (OTFT)-based logic circuitry is powered by an ac power source, the logic circuitry exhibits stable performance characteristics over an extended period of operation. Enhanced stability may permit the use of OTFT logic circuitry to form a variety of circuit devices, including inverters, oscillators, logic gates, registers and the like. Such circuit devices may find application in a variety of applications, including integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, flat panel displays, smart cards, cell phones, and RFID tags. In some applications, the ac-powered logic circuitry may eliminate the need for ac-dc rectification components, thereby reducing the manufacturing time, expense, cost, complexity, and size of the component carrying the circuitry.

    Abstract: An optical cradle is configured to mate with an optical ferrule and permanently bond to a substrate so that light from an optical waveguide coupled to the optical ferrule exits the optical ferrule and couples to an optical component on the substrate after entering the optical cradle at a first location of the optical cradle. The optical cradle includes at least one fulcrum extending from a bottom surface of the optical cradle and configured to make contact with the substrate and allow a rotation of the optical cradle about the contact to angularly align the optical cradle to the optical component without substantially changing a distance, d, between the first location and the optical component.

    Abstract: An opto-electronic assembly includes a substrate having a plurality of first optical waveguides, a cradle, and a first cover encapsulating at least portions of the first optical waveguides and the cradle. The cradle is bonded to the substrate and defines a pocket therein having an opening. The pocket is configured to receive an optical ferrule through the opening and align the optical ferrule to the first optical waveguides. The first cover includes an aperture exposing the opening of the pocket, such that when the optical ferrule is received in the pocket through the opening and secured therein and a plurality of second optical waveguides are attached to the optical ferrule, the opto-electronic assembly is configured to transfer light between the pluralities of first and second optical waveguides.

    Abstract: An optical ferrule (200) has opposing major top (10) and bottom (20) surfaces where the bottom surface includes discrete spaced apart first (90) and second (100) platforms arranged along a mating direction of the optical ferrule (200). During a mating of the ferrule (200) with a mating optical ferrule (200'), the first (90) and second (100) platforms of the ferrule (200) slide against corresponding respective first (90') and second (100') platforms of the mating ferrule (200'). Upon full mating of the ferrule (200) with the mating ferrule (200'), the second platforms (100, 100') of the ferrule and the mating ferrule remain in contact with and rest on each other, and the first platform (90, 90') of neither ferrule makes contact with the other ferrule.

    Abstract: An optical assembly includes a hermaphroditic cassette comprising a hood that includes a narrower section and a wider section. The narrower and wider sections are separated by slots such that the narrower section fits at least partially within a wider section of an identical mating hood of a mating optical assembly and the wider section receives a narrower section of the mating hood. The hood has first and second stop features configured to engage with second and first stop features of the mating hood.     Abstract: An optical ferrule comprises first and second compound stop features respectively disposed at opposing sides of the optical ferrule. Each compound stop feature has upper and lower contact surfaces. The lower contact surface is offset below the mating surface of the optical ferrule along a thickness axis perpendicular to the mating surface. The upper contact surface is offset above the mating surface along the thickness axis.
