Abstract: Coextruded polymeric article comprising first segments each having first and second opposed major surfaces and a thickness, the first segments comprising first material; second segments comprising second material, wherein adjacent first segments are joined together via a second segment, wherein the second segments extend from the second major surface past the first major surface of each first adjacent segment and has a distal end, the second segments having first and second oppose sides; first protrusions each extending from the first side of a second segment and extending no more than to the first major surface of the respective first segment adjacent to the second segment, the first protrusions comprising third material; and second protrusions each extending from the first side of a second segment, contacting the first protrusion extending from the second segment and extending not more than to the distal end of the second segment, the second protrusions comprising fourth material, wherein at least one of the second and third or second and fourth materials are different, and wherein the first segments, second segments, first protrusions, and second protrusions each extend continuously for at least 5 mm. Uses for coextruded polymeric articles described herein include adhesive articles and household cleaning products (e.g., a mop, a duster, a brush, a cleaning cloth, or a lint roller).

Abstract: A battery system includes a plurality of battery cells and a heat exchanger including a plurality of channels for transporting fluid. The channels extend generally along a first direction and are arranged along an orthogonal second direction. Each channel in the plurality of channels has a major surface disposed to contact the fluid. An integrally formed polymeric sheet extending along the first and second directions includes at least a portion of the major surface of each channel in the plurality of channels. A major surface of the heat exchanger is in thermal contact with a major surface of the plurality of battery cells.

Abstract: (Co)polymer matrix composites including a porous (co)polymeric network; a multiplicity of thermally-conductive particles, and a multiplicity of endothermic particles distributed within the (co)polymeric network structure; wherein the thermally-conductive particles and endothermic particles are present in a range from 15 to 99 weight percent, based on the total weight of the particles and the (co)polymer (excluding the solvent). Optionally, the (co)polymer matrix composite volumetrically expands by at least 10% of its initial volume when exposed to a temperature of at least 135° C. Methods of making and using the (co)polymer matrix composites are also disclosed. The (co)polymer matrix composites are useful, for example, as heat dissipating or heat absorbing articles, as fillers, thermal interface materials, and thermal management materials, for example, in electronic devices, more particularly mobile handheld electronic devices, power supplies, and batteries.

Abstract: Article comprising first and second coextruded polymeric nettings, the first and second coextruded polymeric nettings each having a machine direction comprising: a plurality of pairs of: first segments each having first and second opposed major surfaces and a thickness, the first segments comprising first material; second segments comprising second material, wherein adjacent first segments are joined together via a second segment, wherein the second segments extend from the second major surface past the first major surface of each first adjacent segment and has a distal end, the second segments having first and second opposed major surfaces, wherein there is a gap between adjacent second segments; and a third material comprising adhesive, different from the first and second materials on at least one the first or second major surfaces first segment, wherein the first segments, second segments, and third material each extend continuously for at least 5 mm in the machine direction, and wherein first and second materials of adjacent pairs are periodically bonded together in the machine direction, wherein a portion of some of the first segments of the first coextruded polymeric netting are engaged between some of the adjacent first segments of the second coextruded polymeric netting. Netting described herein are useful, for example, for tape landing zones, bundling applications where it is desired to maintain breathability without an air tight barrier, and bundling applications where it is desired to have compression wrap without adhesion to the wrapped substrate.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of a respirator that includes a polymeric netting is disclosed. The respirator can include a mask body including a perimeter, a harness attached to the mask body, and a face seal disposed adjacent at least a portion of the perimeter of the mask body. In one or more embodiments, the face seal includes a polymeric netting including polymeric ribbons and polymeric strands, where each of the polymeric ribbons and strands having a length, width, and height, where the length is the longest dimension, the width is the shortest dimension, and the height is the dimension transverse to the length and the width. The polymeric ribbons have a height-to-width aspect ratio of at least 5 to 1, a major surface that is intermittently bonded to only one polymeric strand, and a height that is at least two times greater than a height of the one polymeric strand.

Abstract: Polymeric layers (50) comprising an array of blind openings (56) extending into the first major surface (52, 10111, 11211), but not through the second major surfaces (54, 10112, 11212). The blind openings each have a series of areas through the openings from the first major surface towards the second major surfaces ranging from minimum to maximum areas, where for at least a majority of the blind openings the minimum area is not at the first major surface. At least a portion of the first major surface comprises a first material and extends up to, but not into the second major surface. At least a portion of the second major surface comprises a second, different material. Methods for making the polymeric layers are also disclosed. Polymeric layers are useful, for example, as components in personal care garments such as diapers and feminine hygiene products. They can also be useful for filtering (including liquid filtering) and acoustic applications.

Abstract: A discontinuous silicone article is disclosed that includes a plurality of strands of radiation cured silicone gel arranged to form a net-like structure with openings between strands. The silicone gel provides adhesion to a surface, such as skin, and the openings provide for moisture transmission away from the surface. The discontinuous silicone article comprises at least one adhesive polymer strand and a plurality of joining strands. The adhesive polymer strands comprise a radiation cured silicone gel and each polymer strand repeatedly contacts an adjacent joining strand at bond regions.
