Abstract: It is presented a compensating system (1) for a power system (2). The compensating system (1) comprises a compensator (3) comprising semiconductor switch means, which compensator (3) has phase legs (6-1, 6-2, 6-3) which on a first side (13) of the compensator (3) defines AC inputs for connection to a respective phase (11-1, 11-2, 11-3) of the power system (2), wherein the phase legs (6-1, 6-2, 6-3) are connected in wye connection at a second side (15) of the compensator (3), which wye connection has a neutral point (N); and a filter arrangement (9) which at a first side thereof is connected to the neutral point (N) of the wye connection and at a second side is connected to the AC inputs to thereby form a circuit (10) with the compensator (3), wherein the filter arrangement (9) is arranged such that the circuit (10) acts essentially as an open circuit for positive sequence currents or voltages and negative sequence currents or voltages, and as a closed circuit for zero-sequence currents, wherein the filter arrangement (9) is further arranged to block a zero-sequence current having a fundamental frequency and to allow a harmonic of the zero-sequence current to pass therethrough, whereby the harmonic of the zero-sequence current is able to flow through the closed circuit.

Abstract: A multilevel converter and a method for controlling a multilevel converter is provided. The multilevel converter is a single phase converter with one phase leg (1), or a three phase converter with three phase legs (1A-C), the phase legs of the three phase converter are interconnected in a star-configuration. The (1), or each (1A-C), phase leg comprises switching cells (11, 21),and each switching cell (11, 21) comprises semi-conductor switches (41, 51) arranged to selectively provide a connection to a corresponding energy storage element (42, 52). The converter also includes a controller (31), which is provided to monitor the DC voltage (VDC) of the energy storage elements (42, 52), and the controller (31) is provided to control the switching of each switching cell (11, 21). The phase leg (1) of the single phase converter, or each phase leg (1A-C) of the three phase converter, comprises two parallel branches (10, 20) of switching cells (11, 21), the branches (10, 20) being configured in a closed circuit. The method includes monitoring (105) the voltage levels of each of the energy storage elements, and balancing (107) the voltages of the energy storage elements, wherein the balancing includes circulating a current (104, 107) within the two branches of the (1), or each (1A-C), phase leg of the multilevel converter.

Abstract: Un sistema para intercambiar energía eléctrica, en conexión en paralelo, con una red de suministro de energíaeléctrica trifásica, cuyo sistema comprende un Convertidor de Fuente de Tensión (5, 5') que presenta al menos tresderivaciones de fase (6-11, 6'-8') cada una en conexión en serie con células de conmutación (15, 15'),en donde cada una de dichas células de conmutación comprende, de una parte, al menos dos conjuntos de montaje desemiconductores (16, 17) conectados en serie y comprendiendo cada uno un dispositivo de semiconductores (18) deltipo de desconexión y un elemento rectificador (19) conectado de manera anti-paralela con este último y, de otra parte, almenos un condensador de almacenamiento de energía (20, 20') así como dos terminales (21, 22) que conectan la célulaa las células adyacentes en dicha conexión en serie de las células de conmutación, estando las tres derivaciones de fasedel convertidor de fuente de tensión, en una primera extremidad (23-25) interconectadas en un punto neutro (26, 26') ensuspensión libre para formar una conexión en Y, estando con una segunda extremidad (27-29, 27'-29', 34-36)conectadas a una fase (2-4) de dicha red de suministro de energía eléctrica trifásica, cuyo sistema comprende, además,medios (40, 40') configurados para detectar condiciones eléctricas de dicha red de suministro de energía eléctricatrifásica y una unidad de control (41, 41'), configurada para controlar dichos dispositivos de semiconductores de dichosconjuntos de montaje de semiconductores de cada célula de conmutación y cada célula de conmutación depende deinformación recibida desde dichos medios de detección con el fin de proporcionar una tensión en los terminales de cadacélula de conmutación que es de o U, en donde U es la tensión de dicho condensador, con el fin de suministrar, con lasotras células de conmutación de la derivación de fase en dicha segunda extremidad, un impulso de tensión que es lasuma de las tensiones así suministradas por cada célula de conmutación y cuya unidad de control (41, 41') estáconfigurada, en el momento de la recepción de información desde dichos medios de detección que crean una necesidadde generar una corriente de secuencia negativa, para calcular un valor para amplitud y posición de fase para unasegunda corriente de secuencia negativa o una tensión de secuencia nula o un valor de una corriente continua para elcual, cuando se añade a dichas tres derivaciones de fase (6-11, 6'-8') a la generación de dicha corriente de secuencianegativa, la energía resultante almacenada en dichos condensadores de almacenamiento de energía en cada derivaciónde fase será constante y para controlar los dispositivos de semiconductores (18) de dichas células de conmutación (15,15') de las derivaciones de fase con el fin de añadir esta tensión de secuencia nula, una segunda corriente de secuencianegativa o una corriente continua DC a las corrientes y tensiones, respectivamente, de cada derivación de fase delconvertidor.

The method comprises the steps of: detecting an over-voltage condition, and controlling simultaneously the by-pass switches of each converter cell so as to bypass the converter cells upon detection of such over- voltage condition.
