PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new cyanine compound useful for optical elements, in particular the compound having a sharp light absorption in the wavelength range of 480-500 nm, excellent in lightfastness, particularly suitable for a light absorbent for an optical filter using as an image display device, and to provide an optical filter composed of the compound. SOLUTION: Provided are the cyanine compound represented by general formula (I) and the optical filter composed of the cyanine compound. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-sensitive recording material such as heat-sensitive recording paper which has a color development reinforcing effect of a printing part, while possessing heat and humidity resistance of a printing part, and besides, an improved heat resistance of a non-printing part. SOLUTION: This heat-sensitive recording material contains a tris (2-methyl-4-hydroxy-5-t-butyl phenyl) butene, including water and/or methanol, as a keeping quality modifier. The above butene has a crystal structure showing a maximum diffraction X-ray peak at a diffraction angle 2θ=6.58° by diffraction X-ray measurement using X rays with a wavelength of Cu-Kα.
