Abstract: In a computer system having a first data processor, e.g. a data collection node 12, a second data processor, e.g. a server 14, and a third data processor, e.g. a work station 21, the second 14 and third 21 data processors are connected by an insecure network segment, e.g. the Internet 17, while the first 12 and third 21 data processors are connected by a network segment, e.g. Local Area Network 13, that has a higher level of security than the insecure network segment. A secure communication between the first 12 and second 14 data processor is established by having the second data processor 14 send an encryption key for a first encryption protocol to the third data processor 21 utilizing a second encryption protocol. The third data processor 21 forwards the encryption key to the first data processor 12. The first data processor 12 then sends a message to the second data processor 14 utilizing the encryption key and the first encryption protocol.

Abstract: A computer based network system includes a first node having a data value, medium for transmitting a network frame, and first and second node computers coupled to the medium. The first node computer is programmed to generate a numeric address based on at least a portion of a publication title, to load the data value and publication title into a data field of the network frame, to load the numeric address into a destination address field of the network frame, and to send the network frame on to the destination address via the medium. The second node computer is programmed to have the publication title associated with the data value, to generate the numeric address based on at least a portion of the publication title, to receive from the medium the network frame with this numeric address, to evaluate the received frame to determine whether the publication title used to generate the numeric address is in the data field of the network frame, to remove the data value from the data field of the network frame when the publication title used to generate the numeric address is in the data field, and to discard the network frame when the data field of the network frame lacks the publication title used to generate the numeric address. A computer-readable medium including a computer software program having a set of executable modules for transmitting data on a network via a network frame is also disclosed A computer based networking method is further disclosed.
