Abstract: An electronic device may include first and second antennas and a Bluetooth transceiver. Control circuitry may perform Bluetooth antenna diversity operations by coupling the Bluetooth transceiver to a selected one of the first and second antennas at a given time. The Bluetooth transceiver may transmit a first Bluetooth data packet and may determine whether a scheduled response packet associated with the first packet has been received over the first antenna during a predetermined time period. In response to determining that the Bluetooth transceiver has failed to receive the scheduled response packet during the first predetermined time period, the Bluetooth transceiver may re-transmit the first packet using the second antenna. This may serve to reduce the error rate of the transmitted Bluetooth data over time relative to scenarios where a single antenna is used, without requiring resource-intensive sensor circuitry to actively monitor the performance of the antennas.

Abstract: A housing for an electronic device is disclosed. The housing includes a first conductive component defining a first interface surface, a second conductive component defining a second interface surface facing the first interface surface, and a joint structure between the first and second interface surfaces. The joint structure includes a molded element forming a portion of an exterior surface of the housing, and a sealing member forming a watertight seal between the first and second conductive components. Methods of forming the electronic device housing are also disclosed.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry. The wireless circuitry may include an antenna. The electronic device may have a housing in which control circuitry and radio-frequency transceiver circuitry is mounted. The transceiver circuitry may be used to transmit and receive radio-frequency signals with the antenna. The housing may have a housing wall with a locally thinned portion aligned with the antenna. The antenna may have a sheet metal layer attached to a plastic cavity with a layer of adhesive. Recesses in a printed circuit may receive prongs formed from a sheet metal layer. The plastic carrier may have cavities separated by ribs. The sheet metal layer may form a planar inverted-F antenna resonating element, a ground plane, a return path between the resonating element and ground plane, and a feed path that extends along one of the ribs and into an opening in the printed circuit.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with an antenna that radiates through a rear housing wall in multiple frequency bands. The antenna may have one or more directly fed patches and one or more indirectly fed patches that are indirectly fed by the directly fed patch(es). One or more of the patches may be shorted to ground traces through the substrate using conductive vias. The antenna may be provided with a dielectric block mounted to the substrate. The patches may be sandwiched between the substrate and the dielectric block. The dielectric block may have a higher dielectric constant than the substrate. The dielectric block may contribute one or more dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) modes to the resonances of the antenna. In these implementations, the patches in the antenna resonating element may form a feed probe for the dielectric block.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with peripheral conductive housing structures and a rear housing wall. The electronic device may have a display mounted to the peripheral conductive housing structures opposite the rear housing wall. The rear housing wall may have a dielectric cover layer and a conductive support plate that extends along the dielectric cover layer. The electronic device may have an antenna that radiates through the dielectric cover layer. The antenna may have a slot antenna resonating element that includes a first slot between the support plate and the peripheral structures and may include a second slot extending from the first slot into the support plate. A conductive interconnect may couple the support plate to the peripheral conductive housing structures at an end of the first slot. The antenna may be fed at a feed protrusion that extends into the second slot.

Abstract: A wirelessly locatable tag may include a first housing member defining a first exterior surface of the tag, a second housing member removably coupled to the first housing member and defining a second exterior surface of the tag, and an antenna assembly. Abstract: An electronic device may have an antenna module with a triplet of antennas on a substrate. The triplet may include a first antenna with a radiating element formed from a patch on the substrate and second and third antennas having radiating elements formed from patches on that extend across a smaller lateral area than the patch in the first antenna. The patches in the second and third antennas may have extended electrical lengths formed from parasitic patches embedded within the substrate that are coupled to opposing edges of the patches by fences of conductive vias. The antenna module may include phased antenna arrays for conveying centimeter/millimeter wave signals. Signal conductors for the antennas may be distributed across multiple metallization layers of the substrate.

The first segment may be separated from the second segment by a single gap, a data connector may pass through the second segment, and the antennas may selectively cover a low band. Alternatively, the first segment may be separated from the second segment by a third segment and two gaps, the data connector may pass through the third segment, and the first and second antennas may concurrently cover the low band.

Abstract: An electronic device such as a wireless earbud may have antenna structures that are configured to form one or more antenna portions or antennas for transmitting and receiving wireless signals. The device may include control circuitry that is configured to selectively activate one or more antennas or antenna portions to transmit and receive wireless signals for the device. The device may include sensor circuitry that provide sensor data to the control circuitry. The control circuitry may use the sensor data to select and activate an optimal antenna based on the orientation of the earbud or the environment of the device. The antennas may be formed on opposing sides of a housing for the device. By providing configurable antenna structures, the device may be configured to adapt to the current environment and efficiently perform communications operations.
