    Abstract: A system and method directed to detecting placement of a medical device within a patient body, the system including a medical device including an optical fiber having core fibers. Each of the one or more core fibers can include a plurality of sensors each configured to reflect a light signal having an altered characteristic due to strain experienced by the optical fiber. The system can further include logic configured to determine a 3D shape of the medical device in accordance with the strain of the optical fiber. The logic can be configured to define a reference plane for the 3D shape and render an image of the 3D shape on a display of the system in accordance with the reference plane.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are impedance-determining medical systems. An impedance- determining medical system can include an impedance interrogator and an impedance-sensing medical device. The impedance interrogator can include instructions configured to instantiate one or more processes in random-access memory upon processing by one or more processors that determine impedance from electrical signals corresponding to electrical currents passed through a biological or non-biological material. The impedance-sensing medical device can include two or more longitudinal conductors distributed among one or more pieces of the impedance-sensing medical device and separated by one or more longitudinal insulators. The two-or-more conductors can be configured to emit, detect, or alternately emit and detect via two or more electrodes thereof the electrical currents passed through the biological or non- biological material. The impedance-sensing medical device can be configured to form a direct or indirect connection to the impedance interrogator and provide the electrical signals to the impedance interrogator.

    Abstract: Procedural barrier-breaching connectors and connection-establishing devices, as well as systems and methods thereof, for establishing portals in procedural barriers are disclosed. For example, a connection-establishing device can include a cap and an extension arm. The cap is configured to sit over a protruding portion of a first medical device with a procedural barrier between the connection-establishing device and the first medical device. The extension arm is configured to push a male connector of a second medical device through the procedural barrier and into a female connector of the first medical device with the extension arm, which establishes one or more functional connections across the procedural barrier between the second medical device and the first medical device. An example method for the foregoing connection-establishing device includes a cap-placing step, an articulating step, and a functional connection-establishing step for establishing the one-or-more functional connections.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are portal-establishing devices and methods thereof for establishing portals in procedural barriers. For example, a portal-establishing device includes a portal and a breaching mechanism. The portal includes a portal barrier in a protruding-end portion thereof. The portal is configured to enable one or more functional connections such as an optical connection or an electrical connection across a procedural barrier between a single-use medical device on a clinician-facing side of the procedural barrier and another medical device on a patient-facing side of the procedural barrier. The breaching mechanism is configured to breach the procedural barrier and place the portal over a breach in the procedural barrier.     Abstract: Disclosed herein are dynamically adjusting ultrasound-imaging systems and methods thereof. For example, an ultrasound-imaging system can include an ultrasound probe, a console, and a display screen. The ultrasound probe includes an array of ultrasonic transducers that, when activated, emit generated ultrasound signals into a patient, receive reflected ultrasound signals from the patient, and convert the reflected ultrasound signals into corresponding electrical signals for processing into ultrasound images. The console is configured to execute instructions for dynamically adjusting a distance of activated ultrasonic transducers from a predefined target or area, an orientation of the activated ultrasonic transducers to the predefined target or area, or both the distance and the orientation of the activated ultrasonic transducers with respect to the predefined target or area. The display screen is configured to display a graphical user interface including the ultrasound images processed by the console from the corresponding electrical signals of the ultrasound signals.
