    Abstract: 1466277 Aromatic glycollic amide sulphites BASF AG 5 July 1974 [7 July 1973] 29874/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises sulphites of glycollic amides having the formula in which R n 1 denotes 0-4 substituents selected from alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl and halogen, R 2 denotes an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical, and R 3 denotes an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical of not more than 6 carbon atoms which may be substituted by halogen and/or hydroxy. They may be prepared by reacting a chlorosulphinate of formula ClSO 2 R 3 with a glycollic amide of formula The products of the invention may be used as active ingredients in herbicidal compositions. The compositions may contain conventional extenders and diluents, wetting agents, other herbicides or pesticides or growth regulators.
