Abstract: A medical infusion pump is disclosed which provides for greatly improved accuracy in the delivery of medica- ments to a patient. Among the various features included in the instant invention is a pumping body which serves to deform and reform a tube so as to maintain the initial cross section thereof and thereby preserve the output accuracy of the pump. Also disclosed with regard to the pumping body is a wholly mechanical synchronization of the pump- ing body and valves associated therewith and coactive with the aforementioned synchronization a mechanical lineariza- tion of output of the pumping body per each pumping cy- cle. Additionally, several features which serve to enhance the utility of the instant invention are also included therein among which is an associated assembly operative to auto- matically load or disicad a tube or IV set into or out of the pumping body. Associated with the assembly operative to automatically load or disload a tube and disclosed herein is an assembly operative to selectively open or close a slide clamp associated with the tube in such a way as to ensure that the tube is occluded such that in combination with the valves associated with the pumping body, a condition of free-flow of medicament is never realized. Additionally disclosed are sensor housings adapted to measure various quantities associated with fluid flowing through the tube wherein the housings arc with associated components adapted to achieve a substantially normal orientation with respect to the sidewall of the tube and in the achieving of such normal orientation, expressing art essentially zero elastic stress gradient across the tube.

Abstract: The locations of a plurality of devices (12a-12g)are tracked using a network (14) of communication links (16a-16d), each of which corresponds to a location. Each device (12a-12g) is given a tag (16a-16d) that identifies the device (12a-12g) with respect to other devices (12a-12g) and that is connectable to a communication link (16a-16d) when the device (12a-12g) is disposed at the location to which the link (16a-16d) corresponds. Each tag (30a-30g) that is connected to each communication link (16a-16d) is detected, and the location of each device (12a-12g) is determined based on the detection. One feature of the technique is additionally determining the conditions of the devices (12a-12g) by correlating one or more communication links (16a-16d) with conditions. The technique is simple to use and highly effective technique in tracking devices (12a-12g) stored at various locations throughout a facility. Device (12a-12g) location and condition are monitored continuously, thereby reducing the risk that the removal of a device (12a-12g) from storage (18) will go undetected.

Abstract: An infusion pump comprises a drive mechanism; an assembly operable with the drive mechanism, the assembly configured to deliver a flowable material to a patient; a mountable housing holding the drive mechanism and configured at its front side to receive the assembly and at its backside to mount to an external support in either a first orientation or a second orientation, the second orientation being rotated approximately 90 degrees from the first orientation about an axis extending perpendicularly from the front side of the housing, wherein the housing supports the drive mechanism and the assembly in each of the orientations; a controller operably connected to the housing; and a display operably connected to the controller and supported by the front side of the housing, the display configured to be rotatably responsive to the first or second orientation in which the housing is mounted to the external support, so that information displayed by the display is oriented right-side-up regardless of whether the front side is in the first orientation or the second orientation when the display is rotated approximately 90 degrees.
