Abstract: A slider for use with a slide lock of the type having a guide support and a latch slidably movable through apertures of the guide support. The slider includes a main body having opposite first and second surfaces, and mounting hooks provided on the first surface of the main body for removably mounting the slider onto an aperture of the guide support of the slide lock. The slider further includes a channel extending inside the main body from the first surface to the second surface thereof, the channel being shaped and sized to allow the latch of the slide lock to freely slide therethrough. The channel is further devised to reduce friction and vibrations of the latch sliding through the channel of the slider. The thickness of the main body is devised so as to absorb the noise and vibrations caused by the impact from the end of travel of the sliding latch hitting against the guide support of the slide lock. The above-mentioned features of the slider enable to substantially prolong the service life of the slide lock.

Abstract: A plug mounted at one end of a torsional spring operatively connected to an overhead shaft of a counterbalancing mechanism of a garage door, wherein the plug comprises projecting interlocking means able to cooperate with corresponding matching means of a mating part of the counterbalancing mechanism, so that when the interlocking means of the plug are inserted into the corresponding matching means and when tension is applied to the torsional spring, the interlocking means interlock with said matching means of the mating part, thereby preventing the plug from being readily removed therefrom. The projecting interlocking means thus act as safety means because they provide an automatic locking mechanism which make the plug operate as a safety device a s well. Hence, the plug according to the present invention has a dual purpose, that is, it can operate as a conventional plug, whether it be stationary or winding, as well as a safety device for the counterbalancing mechanism with which it cooperates, because of its projecting interlocking means.

Abstract: A cable failure device for a mobilizing a garage door in the event of a failure of one of the cables or one of the elements holding the cables is described. The cable failure device of the invention includes a support structure mounted on the cable operated door and includes a connection point onto which a tensioned cable is connected. A braking assembly is mounted onto the support structure and includes a casing mounted onto the support structure and a brake operable between a rest position and an operable position. The brake is movably mounted to the support structure and is located adjacent the outside of a fixed frame such as guide rails and is adapted to co-operate with a roller on the garage door so that a portion of the guide rail lies between the roller and the brake. A tension detector co-operating with the tension cable is provided for detecting a tension in the tension cable and an actuator is operatively connected to the tension detector and to the brake. When the brake is in the rest position, the rollers guide the door along the rail and when the brake is triggered into the operable position by a loss of tension in the cable detected by the tension detector, it causes the actuator to actuate the brake so that it engages the outside of these rails, thereby urging the brake and one of the rollers towards each other. This combined action brakes the movement of the cable operated door and thus impedes its free falling to the ground, thereby preventing damages and injuries.

Abstract: A security seal for a collar used for tensioning springs in garage door assemblies. A collar typically includes at least one set screw projecting outwardly and at least two winding holes. The security seal of the invention includes a generally longitudinal piece of flexible material having two opposite ends, the opposite ends being provided with a locking system for locking the opposite ends together in a permanent fashion. The seal also has at least one hollow cup adapted to receive the at least one set screw and at least two solid cups, each of the cups being adapted to fit with a corresponding winding hole. The hollow cup and the at least two solid cups are disposed on the security seal so that when the seal is locked above the collar, the hollow cup and the solid cups are in registration with the at least one set screw and the at least two winding holes respectively.

Abstract: The fastening system is used for fastening the free end of a cable to a drum of a counterbalancing system, such as the counterbalancing system of a garage door. A method for fastening the free end of a cable to a drum is also disclosed. This fastening system comprises a pressure screw and a threaded hole made through the central sleeve portion of the drum to receive the pressure screw. The thread ed hole extends from outside the drum to a central opening of the drum through whic h is inserted the shaft or an interposed element, such as a bearing. The fastening system also comprises a cable-receiving channel provided in the central sleeve portion. The channel has at least a portion that is aligned with the threaded ho le and that is adjacent to the central opening. The channel comprises a cable entry to receive the free end of the cable and is sized to tightly hold the cable therein when the drum is mounted around the shaft or the interposed element. The cable is the n pressed between the pressure screw and the shaft or the interposed element upon tightening of the screw to rigidly connect the cable by friction engagement. The fastening system is very dependable and easy to install. It also allows an insta ller or a maintenance worker to cut the cables on site from a continuous cable provided on a roll.
