    Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably provide a display which generates a large tilt angle theta and with which high-contrast images are displayed uniformly with a wide area without generating after-images. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal element is constituted by having oriented films 14a, 14b on at least one of a pair of substrates 11a, 11b provided with transparent electrodes 12, 12b and clamping a ferroelectric liquid crystal 15 between the substrates. These oriented films 14a, 14b are the composite consisting of >=2 kinds of polymer components and the polyamide expressed by formula is incorporated into one of these polymer components. (In the formula, R1, R2: 1 to 10C alkyl group or 1 to 10C fluoroalkyl group, where R1, R2 may be the same or different).

When the sizes of the retardation at the color filters in the respective colors of R, G and B are expressed by DELTAR, DELTAG and DELTAB, the relations of DELTAR>DELTAG>DELTAB are satisfied and when a 1/2 angle formed by average polymer directions in the two stable states of ferro-inductive liquid crystal is defined as thetaa, a delay phase axis direction 5 of DELTAR, DELTAG and DELTAB is set within the range of + or -thetaa with a layer normal direction 1 of the ferro-inductive liquid crystal as a center.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal element which does not require a high- temp. treatment at the time of forming oriented films, has excellent productivity, has a high contrast in a bright state and a dark state, is extremely high in display contrast at the time of multiplexing driving in particular, provides a display of a high grade and does not generate after-images unsightly to the eyes.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify matrix electrode structure and to reduce cost by providing display element parts, scanning electrode and signal electrode driving circuits, and a projecting optical system which synthesizes the transmitted light rays of the respective display element parts and projects and displays the images on a screen and commonly imaging either of the scanning electrodes and the signal electrode driving circuits on the respective display element parts. CONSTITUTION:The scanning electrode groups 22 and the signal electrode groups 23 are provided to intersect with each other in the form of matrix to the respective display element parts R, G, B. The signal electrodes 23 are connected to the driving circuits 20R, 20G, 20B for the signal electrodes provided to each of the respective display element parts, while the scanning electrodes 22 are connected to the common driving circuit 17 for the scanning electrodes. The red, green and blue image are formed on the respective display element parts by successively driving the respective driving circuits 20R, 20G, 20B for the signal electrodes while the driving circuits 17 for the scanning electrode are driven. These images are synthesized and are projected and displayed on the screen 19 by the light of a light source 11 via the projecting optical system. Since either of the two electrode groups is connected to the common driving electrodes, the constituting of the driving circuits is simplified and the cost is reduced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the influence of antielectric field effect and crosstalk between pixels. SOLUTION: On one substrate 2, an orientation control film 10 is fold which has uniaxial orientation characteristics to limpid crystal molecules and on the other substrate 3, a film 7 is formed which has nonuniaxial orientation characteristics to the liquid crystal molecules. This film 7 has a polycrystalline structure which has nearly no crystal grain boundary in its film thickness direction and crystal grain boundaries in its film surface direction. Consequently, the film 7 has low volume resistivity along the film thickness and high volume resistivity along the film surface. Those volume resistivity values are set within a specific range to prevent the influence of antielectric field effect and crosstalk between pixels.
