Abstract:
An oral composition comprising a vehicle and a zinc ion source in the form of nanoparticles that are substantially non-aggregated and methods for use of such compositions are described. The composition provides antiplaque and anti malodor benefits to the user and the inclusion of nanoparticles permits a reduction in the amount of zinc ions present in the composition while maintaining efficacy.
Abstract:
An oral carrier strip for the delivery of an oral care composition to the oral cavity of a human or animal subject is provided. The strip includes a first portion adapted to contact a front facing side of a plurality of teeth. A second portion is provided to be folded around the teeth so as to contact a back facing side of the teeth. The first portion has a first perimeter patterned to substantially match a shape of an outer gingival tissue, and the second portion has a second perimeter opposite the first perimeter and patterned to match a shape of an inner gingival tissue. The second perimeter defines an aperture disposed in the second portion having a rounded notch positioned in a center portion of the strip, configured to prevent the strip from tearing when folded around the teeth.
Abstract:
An anti-staining, antibacterial dentifrice comprises an anti-staining effective amount of an orally acceptable polymer or copolymer that comprises a plurality of monomeric groups of formula (I) wherein (a) one of A and A' is hydrogen and the other is a moiety (X)n(R)m, (b) n in individual such moieties is independently 0 or 1, (c) linking groups X if present independently comprise an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon atom, (d) where n is 0, m is 1, and where n is 1, m is independently an integer from 1 to 3 as determined by X, (e) terminal groups R are independently hydrogen or C1-18 organic radicals, and (f) M and M' are independently selected from hydrogen, alkali metal and ammonium; said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000. The dentifrice further comprises an antibacterial effective amount of an orally acceptable halogenated diphenylether antibacterial agent, and an antibacterial enhancing effective amount of an orally acceptable polyvinylmethylether/maleic anhydride copolymer.
Abstract:
Tooth-whitening films comprising a hydratable polymer and a whitening agent are disclosed in which the films have a hydrophobic coating on one surface and a tooth-adherent coating on the opposing surface. Flavorings can also be included in the hydratable polymer portion of the film or in either the hydrophobic coating or the tooth-adherent coating. Tooth-whitening methods that use the films are also disclosed. The hydratable polymer preferably is a polyethylene oxide.
Abstract:
An oral composition and method for use thereof, comprising in an orally acceptable vehicle, an effective antiplaque amount of a noncationic antibacterial agent, and an anionic copolymer formed from monomers of which about 40 to about 90 % by weight are hydrophilic type capable of attachment to oral surfaces and about 10 to about 60 % by weight are of a hydrophobic type; such oral composition being effective in increasing the uptake of the antibacterial compound to dental tissue so as to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of the administered antibacterial compound.
Abstract:
An oral composition comprising an orally acceptable vehicle and an effective antiplaque amount of at least one substantially water insoluble noncationic antibacterial agent of the formulae (1) and (2).
