Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the damage of the magneto-optical recording medium of a magnetic field modulation system using a floating type magnetic head by contact with the floating type magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The surface 3a of the org. resin protective layer 3 of the magneto-optical recording medium contg. a recording layer 2 and org. resin protective layer 3 successively laminated on a substrate 1 is subjected to a rough surface treatment in a range of average surface roughness Ra=0.02 to 0.20mum. Then, attraction and rubbing hardly arise even if the magnetic head comes into contact with the recording medium at the time of starting and stopping when the recording medium is used for a driving system of a magnetic field modulation system.
