Abstract:
A mass spectrometer ion reaction device, useful for performing ion-ion reactions (eg. ETD, PTR) is described. The device includes a plurality of non-linear rods, that form a pair of quadrupole rod sets. The device includes an axial passageway, that allows injections of ions of both polarities into the device, and a three dimensional trapping region. Anions and cations that are injected into the device are spatially separated into different trapping regions by a DC dipole electric field generated by a DC voltage source. The device also includes a plurality of lenses to confine, transmit or receive ions in/from the device.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for conducting reactions between precursor ions and reagent ions, for example, a reaction between a precursor cation and an electron, such as ECD, are disclosed. The apparatus comprises first, second, and third pathways, each of which extends at least partially along a central axis, and wherein the second central axis is orthogonal to the first and third central axes. Charged species can be introduced into the second pathway as the ions are transmitted therethrough, thereby increasing precursor ion and charged species interaction without simultaneous trapping of the species.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for multiplexed precursor ion selection are provided. A mass isolator includes a selection region of rods, a transmission region of rods, and a barrier electrode lens separating the selection and transmission regions. Two or more different precursor ions are selected by applying two or more different AC voltage frequencies to rods of a selection region in order to resonate the two or more different precursor ions from a continuous beam of ions. The two or more different precursor ions are transmitted by applying a DC voltage to the barrier electrode lens, creating an electric field potential barrier over which only the resonating ions are transmitted. Precursor ions of product ions from combined product ion spectra produced by multiplexed precursor ion selection are identified by grouping the target precursor ions.
