    Abstract: In selecting (110) location measurement units (13) for measuring an uplink signal received from a mobile communication station (17) operating in a wireless communication network in order to locate the position of the mobile communication station (17) in the wireless communication network, a possible position (111) of the mobile station in the network is identified. The location measurement units (13) to be used in measuring the uplink signal can then be identified by evaluating one or more of relative positional relationships between the possible position (111) of the mobile station (17) and a plurality of further positions (62) respectively associated with a plurality of location measurement units (13) in the network; path loss measures predicted (101) for each of a plurality of location measurement units (13) relative to the possible position (111) of the mobile station (17); and geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) values determined (125) for each of a plurality of groups (112) of location measurement units (13) with respect to the possible position (111) of the mobile station (17).

THE MOBILE COMMUNICATION STATION DETERMINES, IS RESPONSE TO THE REAL TIME DIFFERENCE INFORMATION AND RELATIVE TO THE TIME BASE BY THE RADIO TRANSMITTER SERVING THE MOBILE COMMUNICATION STATION, A PLURALITY OF POINTS IN TIME AT WHICH THE RESPECTIVE RADIO SIGNALS ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE AT THE MOBILE COMMUNICATION STATION.     Abstract: A time of arrival measurement apparatus is (TMU) used to measure the time of arrival of a radio signal (30) transmitted by a mobile communication station (MS) operating in a wireless mobile communication network. The apparatus is provided with information indicative (36) of a predetermined point in time at which the radio signal is to be transmitted. The time of arrival measurement apparatus monitors for arrival of the radio signal only during a period of time after the predetermined point in time. The time of arrival measurement apparatus also receives information (BSIC, HRN) from which it can determine an informational content of the radio signal.
