    Abstract: SOFT COPY DISPLAY OF FACSIMILE IMAGES Digital data defining images are stored in a multiplane buffer. The buffer may store plural images by restricting data corresponding to an image or image portion to less than half the bit planes of the buffer. An image is displayed by reading data from the buffer and selectively passing only a portion of the data read to a display. The data defining the images may be converted from facsimile (single bit per pixel) to grey scale format (multiple bits per pel) before being written to the buffer. The conversion relies on a table storing data definitive of the effect, on the image, of a facsimile transition (1/0 or 0/1) as a function of the location or the transition. Conversion from facsimile to grey scale is effected by examining the facsimile data for data transition and summing the effect of each of the transitions to convert a segment of facsimile data to grey scale data. A system is also disclosed for rapidly converting an image in run-end form to a reduced-resolution gray-tone image.

    Abstract: SUSPENSION ARRANGEMENT FOR AN OSCILLATING BODY A body, which oscillates or vibrates at resonance, is suspended from a support structure so that it has spatially linear motion along an axis for a relatively short distance. The body has two connected portions spaced from each other along the axis of motion of the body with each portion connected by leaf springs to a separate intermediate frame. The two intermediate frames are preferably disposed on opposite sides of the axis of motion of the body and connected by additional leaf springs to a main frame, which is suspended by leaf springs from a normally stationary support. If desired, the two intermediate frames may be driven out of phase with each other with one in phase with the body so that the body has a predetermined path different than spatially linear motion without materially affecting the amplitude of motion of the body along its axis of motion.     Abstract: MICROMIST JET PRINTER A micromist printing arrangement wherein a micromist of ink particles, provided by an ultrasonic nebulizer, is forced through a small nozzle to form an aerosol jet. The micromist ink particles are entrained in the jet and focused to print a narrow width region which is substantially smaller in size than the overall jet diameter and the nozzle opening. Particle size, jet stream velocity and air or other carrier gas viscosity are considered in establishing focusing characteristics of the aerosol jet, which is directed against the paper to wet the same, thereby obtaining dense, well defined print lines. According to a first embodiment, modulation of the aerosol jet is achieved by fluid logic control whereby a vacuum is introduced into the path of the aerosol jet to shunt it from its printing path. In another embodiment, control may be achieved through the use of sonic excitation of turbulence into the aerosol jet. The sonic excitation changes the aerosol jet from laminar flow to turbulent flow, resulting in a reduction of the velocity of the aerosol jet such that the aerosol ink particles do not wet the paper.
