    Abstract: A wire state of use indication apparatus for use with a traveling-wire electroerosion cutting machine is disclosed in which a sensing unit instantaneously responds to the rotation of a roller disposed in the wire travel path and rotated with the electrode wire travelling in bearing contact with the roller. The number of the rotations is counted to produce a sensing signal which represents the cumulative number of rotations of the roller a number which in turn represents the amount of the electrode wire which has been drawn out of the wire storage rool by a given time instant during a given cutting operation. A processing circuit is provided to process the sensing signal with an input setting signal representing the amount of the electrode wire stored in the reel prior to the commencement of the cutting operation to produce an output signal which represents the amount of the electrode wire remaining in the reel at that time instant. The sensing unit may also provide a further sensing signal representing the instantaneous rate of rotation of the roller which rate in turn represents the instantaneous rate of drawing the wire out of the reel.

    Abstract: An improved method of cutting a workpiece to form a desired contour therein with a continuous wire electrode axially advanced to linearly traverse the workpiece across a cutting zone and also displaced relative to the workpiece transversely to the axis of the wire electrode. The method comprises the steps of (a) electroerosively rough-cutting the workpiece while effecting the transverse relative displacement along a first predetermined path corresponding to the desired contour and defined to generate a rough-cut contour with an overcut alpha in the workpiece, and (b) electroerosively finish-cutting the workpiece while effecting the transverse relative displacement along a second predetermined path shifted by a distance n alpha uniformly from the first predetermined path where n is a value proportional to the thickness of the workpiece traversed by the wire electrode, thereby generating a finish-cut contour coinciding with the desired contour in the workpiece.

    Abstract: An improved method of and apparatus for the electrical discharge machining of a small and deep hole of a diameter of 1 mm or less and a depth-to-diameter ratio of at least 5 into or through a workpiece wherein a water machining fluid medium is used having a specific resistivity of at least 104 ohm-cm and is pumped through a tubular elongated electrode into the machining gap at a pressure of at least 20 kg/cm2, preferably 40 kg/cm2. An ultrasonic vibration is imparted to the elongated tubular electrode longitudinally thereof or transversely thereto.
