PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a colored composition for color filter that has excellent dispersion stability in storage and can form a hardened film with excellent developability and substrate adhesion, and a colored composition for color filter containing a pigment dispersion element obtained by the same method.SOLUTION: There are provided [1] a method of manufacturing a pigment dispersion element for color filter having the following steps (1) and (2), and [2] a colored composition for color filter containing a pigment dispersion element obtained by the same method. In the step (1), a graft polymer (A) containing a nitrogen atom and an organic pigment are dispersed in an ester-based organic solvent to obtain a pigment dispersion liquid. In the step (2), the pigment dispersion liquid obtained in the step (1) and a graft polymer (B) containing a carboxyl group are mixed with each other, wherein both side chains of the graft polymers (A) and (B) contain constitutional units derived from (meta) acrylic acid ester and the absolute value of difference between the Sp values (solubility parameters) of each side chain is 0.5 to 2.5.
