    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the scattering of powder during handling of powdered coating agent and to improve working environment by mixing liq. of specific properties at a specific amt. with a mixture of a refractory base material and a binder. CONSTITUTION:A material which has >=100 deg.C b.p. and is liquid at ordinary temp. is mixed with a mixture of a general known refractory base material and a binder at 1.5-8.0wt% ratio basing on the weight of the mixtue. The reason for specifying the mixing ratio lies in that if the amt. of said material to be used exceeds 8.0wt%, the powdered coating agent causes caking during storage and loses fluid characteristics as powder. If the amt. of the addition is below 1.5wt%, sufficient characteristics are not provided.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress the penetration of the moisture in a coating agent into a mold and to reduce drying time by pretreating the mold by the use of a water- repellent waterproofing agent prior to the use of the water-base coating agent. CONSTITUTION:Wax, paraffin, silicone wax, rosin, mineral oil, metallic soap, etc. are used as a water-repellent waterproofing agent. It is coated by a method of dissolving said waterproofing agent in an easy-to-evaporate solvent such as ethanol, dichloromethane, ''Freon '', acetone, petroleum ether or the like or spraying this in the form of a water emulsion. It is used in about 0.5-20wt% concn. range. At =20%, it is unecnomical and is disadvantageous because it sticks during coating and causes clogging or the like.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a mold which holds a longer pot life and high compressive strength and is good in collapsing properties after pouring of molten metal by allowing a hydroxy-dicarboxylic acid to coexist with a system of cement and an aqueous glyoxal soln. CONSTITUTION:Cement, an aqueous glyoxal soln. and a hydroxy-dicarboxylic acid, for example, tartaric acid, malic acid or the like are added and the mixture is kneaded and molded. Extra-high-early-strength portland cement, normal porland cement or the like is used as the cement, and the use of normal portland cement is desirable. The addition of a hydroxyl-dicarboxylic acid is effective in retarding curing and does not degrade compressive strength.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To mold an org. self-hardening mold of good thermal properties by kneading a resol type phenolic resin with aggregate together with glyoxal, and molding the same. CONSTITUTION:A 40% aqueous soln. of glyoxal is added about 20-300% to a liquid resol type phenolic resin, and this is kneaded with refractory aggregate such as sand. This phenolic resin is used about 0.5-10% for the aggregate. If necessary, silica gel is added to this kneaded mixture and the mixture is filled in a molding flask and is molded. According to this method, the self-hardening mold which has proper hot strength, is superior in collapsing property, does not evolve any harmful gas during pouring and has adequate rate of hardening is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To expedite the strength development of a sand mold and mold a nontoxic mold of high strength by compounding a binder combining cement and glyoxal in molding sand and molding the same. CONSTITUTION:Glyoxal is prepared to a 40% aqueous soln. and is added to molding sand such as silica sand at 0.5-15wt% based on the weight of the sand, and the mixture is mixed. Thence, cement such as portland cement is added at 0.5- 20% thereto and the mixture is kneaded. This is filled in a molding flask, and is molded. According to this method, the development of strength is expedited, and no toxic gases are evolved during molding or pouring of molten metal, thus the self- hardening mold of good collapsing property of sand after pouring is obtained.
