Abstract:
A selective call communication system (100) includes a scanner (14) for retrieving information from a source document (26). The source document (26) has the information being located relative to at least three markers (50-54). The scanner (14) further includes an encoder (34) for encoding and compressing the information; and a modem (36), coupled to the encoder (34), for transferring the information and the at least three markers (50-54) to a selective call terminal (28). The selective call terminal (28) includes a receiver (202) for receiving the information and the at least three markers (50-54); and a processor (20) for processing the information and the at least three markers (50-54). The processor (20) further includes a marker locator (204) for searching for the at least three markers (50-54); and a determinator (216), coupled to said marker locator (204), for determining a location of the information. A transmitter (30, 32) coupled to the processor (20), transmits the information being processed to an at least one selective call receiver (40).
Abstract:
A selective call radio (100) has a radio frequency transceiver (102), and a processor (104) for controlling operations of the transceiver. The processor is programmed to cause (202) the transceiver to receive a third party call while the SCR is actively engaged in an end user call, and respond (203) to the third party call according to a call response profile defined by an end user of the SCR.
Abstract:
A system, method and computer readable medium for communicating data over a voice channel on a wireless device ( 300 ) is disclosed. The method on a wireless device ( 300 ) includes establishing an audio connection with a second device and providing an interface ( 326 ) for a user for sending data to the second device. The method further includes detecting the activation of the interface ( 326 ) by the user and sending a first data to the second device during the audio connection with the second device, wherein the quality of the audio connection is not affected by the sending. The method further includes receiving a second data from the second device, the second data being associated with the first data and preferably synchronizing the first data with the second data. Information, such as Vcard information, can be wirelessly exchanged between devices communicating data over a voice channel during an audio connection.
Abstract:
According to the invention cellular telephones or other communications devices (102) may request provisioning of features or services (114) by applications, for instance applications received via over-the-air programming (OAP), via a remote authorization service (120). The requests by applications, such as Java applications, for access to provisioning privileges may be intercepted, for instance, by a native layer (108) executing on the communications device (102). The native layer (108) may communication the provisioning request (114), along with information identifying the requesting application, to a remote authorization server (120). Provisioning requests may be for ring tone, game, long distance or other features or services. The authorization facility may compare the application identifier or other information against a list or table of applications authorized to access device-specific data or perform other authorization. A grant, denial, deferral or other determination may be communicated back to the device, to permit or deny provisioning accordingly.
