Abstract: In a non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a golf ball has a surface comprising a plurality of dimples arranged in an amorphous pattern. In an additional embodiment of the invention, a golf ball has a surface comprising a plurality of spaced dimples, wherein the dimples each comprise a non-circular shape and are spaced by land portions having substantially uniform widths. In an additional embodiment of the present invention, a golf ball has a surface formed with a plurality of non-circular, multi-sided shaped dimples and interposed lands having substantially consistent widths between adjacent dimples. In yet another alternative embodiment of the present invention, an exemplary method of making a golf ball having a dimpled surface is provided. The process comprises generating an amorphous pattern of non-circular shaped dimples and then transferring the amorphous pattern to the surface of the golf ball.

Abstract: An embossing and adhesive application process including the steps of: applyi ng an adhesive to a first patterned embossing roll which is engaged with a seco nd patterned embossing roll having a complementary pattern to the first embossi ng roll; passing a web of sheet material between the first and second embossing rolls at a tangential line speed to simultaneously emboss the web and direct the adhesive against the web; and splitting the adhesive such that at least some of the adhesive remains on the first embossing roll and some of the adhesive remains on the web to form an adhesive pattern between embossments on the web.

Abstract: A multi-purpose sheet material comprising an absorbent layer and a cut-resistant material in contact with the absorbent layer. The cut-resistant material can comprise a cut-resistant support system, such as cut-resistant support element formed in the absorbent layer for example. The cut-resistant material may alternatively comprise cut-resistant particles, such as polymer particles having an average size of at least about 100 micrometers for example. Preferably, the sheet material exhibits an absorbent efficiency of at least about 0.2 and a slice resistance of at least about 30 kgf/cm, and more preferably an absorbent efficiency of at least about 1.0 and a slice resistance of at least about 40 kgf/cm. It is also preferred that sheet material exhibit a cut-resistance of at least about 30 kgf/cm, an absorbent efficiency of at least about 0.2, and a wet abrasion loss of less than about 400 mg per 100 revolutions.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for creating amorphous patterns based on a constrained Voronoi tesselation of 2-space that can be tiled. There are three basic steps required to generate a constrained Voronoi tesselation of 2-space: 1) nucleation point placement; 2) Delauney triangulation of the nucleation points; and 3) polygon extraction from the Delauney triangulated space. The tiling feature is accomplished by modifying only the nucleation point portion of the algorithm. The method of the present invention, for creating an amorphous two-dimensional pattern of interlocking two-dimensional geometrical shapes having at least two opposing edges which can be tiled together, comprises the steps of: (a) specifying the width xmax of the pattern measured in direction x between the opposing edges; (b) adding a computational border region of width B to the pattern along one of the edges located at the x distance xmax; (c) computationally generating (x,y) coordinates of a nucleation point having x coordinates between 0 and xmax: (d) selecting nucleation points having x coordinates between 0 and B and copying them into the computational border region by adding xmax to their x coordinate value; (e) comparing both the computationally generated nucleation point and the corresponding copied nucleation point in the computational border against all previously generated nucleation points; and (f) repeating steps (c) through (e) until the desired number of nucleation points has been generated. To complete the pattern formation process, the additional steps of: (g) performing a Delaunay triangulation on the nucleation points; and (h) performing a Voronoi tessellation on the nucleation points to form two-dimensional geometrical shapes are included. Patterns having two pairs of opposing edges which may be tiled together may be generated by providing computational borders in two mutually orthogonal coordinate directions.

Abstract: A high speed embossing and adhesive printing process using a first and secon d embossing rolls having complementary embossing pattern disposed thereon. A w eb of sheet material is placed in contact with an adhesive applied to the first embossing roll. The adhesive forms an adhesive pattern on the web of sheet material in register with the first embossing pattern of the first embossing roll. The web of sheet material is then passed between the first and second embossing rolls which emboss the web with the complementary embossing patter n.

Abstract: A substance delivery system has a three dimensional structure with outermost surface features and spaces for containing a substance. The substance has a level below the outermost surface features such that the substance is protected from inadvertent contact with external surfaces. The substance remains protected until the three dimensional structure is sufficiently deformed into a substantially two dimensional structure and the substance is thereby exposed to contact an external surface without compliance of the external surface being necessary. Deforming is preferably achieved by a compression force, wherein the outermost surface features of the three dimensional structure deform in a direction of the compression force. A method of making the three dimensional material includes the steps of coating a substance onto a forming surface, transferring the coating of substance from the forming surface to a piece of material, and forming the piece of material into a three dimensional structure on the forming surface while the substance is in contact with the forming surface.
