Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide for allocating spectrum in a wireless communication system that supports simultaneously at least a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation. Logic is arranged for determining a proportion of spectrum required for the wireless communication unit to operate simultaneously in both the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation. Logic for allocating spectrum allocates a temporary guard band between a first portion of spectrum for the first mode of operation and a second portion of spectrum for the second mode of operation for use while the wireless communication unit operates simultaneously in the first mode of operation and second mode of operation.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for determining operating bandwidth in a multi-bandwidth communication system are provided. Determining operating bandwidth in a multi-bandwidth communication system includes receiving a signal having a first signal portion at a first, predetermined bandwidth. The signal contains an indication of an operating bandwidth selected from a plurality of bandwidths used for a further signal portion. The indication is recovered from the first signal portion at the predetermined bandwidth. The information is recovered from the further signal portion at the operating bandwidth indicated by the indication.
Abstract:
An arrangement (100) and method for RF filtering in a Node B of a UMTS TDD system by providing: a DAC converter (130) converting digital signals to analog signals; providing a narrow band analogue channel filter (150) filtering the analog signals; and providing a digital pre-equalizer FIR filter (120) coupled before the DAC (120) to filter the digital signals, the digital pre-equalizer filter means substantially correcting for non linear phase response (122) non-ideality and amplitude response non-ideality (124) in the analogue channel filter (150). This provides the following advantage(s): it enables 3GPP Node B co-location specifications to be met while providing both good transmit accuracy and acceptable ISI performance; and it allows filter centre frequency to be field tuned in software, permitting a basic RF single-channel filter to used with its centre frequency being field adjustable to a desired value centred on a UMTS channel.

Abstract:
A network access device is described that uses a modified lower layer two (L2) software interface that is enhanced to operate as a proxy for a dynamic upper L2 software interface when the upper L2 software interface has been torn down, i.e., terminated unbeknownst to a subscriber device. The lower L2 software interface may, for example, be extended to incorporate certain features of the upper L2 software interface to detect such a condition. In the absence of the upper L2 software interface, the lower L2 interface may output a simulated termination request on behalf of the upper L2 interface and in accordance with the upper L2 protocol.
Abstract:
A differential filter includes a swellable polymer that swells after contacting water such that permeability of the differential filter is reduced. A method of controlling water production in a well includes deploying a differential filter downhole; and performing a downhole operation, wherein the differential filter comprises a swellable polymer that swells after contacting water such that permeability of the differential filter is reduced.
Abstract:
The invention provides an oilfield suspending friction reducer treatment composition fluid comprising from about 0.001 weight percent to about 0.5 weight percent of a drag reducing surfactant; at least one drag reducing enhancer selected from the group consisting of polymeric drag reduction enhancers, monomeric drag reduction enhancers, and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
A coherent or a noncoherent transmission mode is automatically selected for a transmission on the basis of an estimated Doppler frequency shift due to a motion of a mobile terminal. A coherent mode is selected if a pilot signal overhead is not excessive to uniquely characterize a Doppler frequency shift, as at lower carrier frequency times relative velocity products. A noncoherent mode is selected if a pilot signal overhead would be excessive to uniquely characterize a Doppler frequency shift at higher carrier frequency times relative velocity products. Both the coherent and noncoherent modes have respective advantages for their respective carrier frequency time relative velocity regimes.
