    Abstract: An oblong absorbent article that includes a liquid-impermeable bottom sheet, and upper liquid-permeable sheet and an absorbent body disposed between these sheets, and on each side of the longitudinal center line of the upper sheet at least one longitudinal elastic liquid barrier having at least the free edge treated with a non-adhesive sealing medium which partly fills out the pores formed between the free edge and the abutment surface on the wearer, and/or which, when the article is donned, increases around said abutment surface, the wetting angle of the liquid to the skin. An absorbent article that includes an essentially liquid-impermeable top sheet above an absorbent body enclosed between an upper liquid-permeable sheet and a liquid-impermeable sheet, the top sheet being provided with elastic for shaping the article to the wearer's body and incorporating apertures intended to register with the anus and the urethra orifice of the wearer in use, around which apertures elastically puckered sealing edges are disposed, at least one sealing edge being coated with the sealing medium.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an absorbent article in the form of a pants-type diaper or a sanitary panty starts from a flat blank which includes an elongated absorbent body (5) enclosed between two casing sheets (2, 9) which at opposing front and rear end parts of the absorbent body have side parts which extend laterally beyond the body on opposite sides thereof. The method includes the step of folding the blank about a transverse axis so that the end edges of the side parts lie edge-to-edge.     Abstract: An absorbent article comprising a liquid-permeable casing sheet (1), a liquid-impermeable casing sheet (2) and an absorbent body (3) enclosed between the two casing sheets. The absorbent body (3) includes a liquid acquisition space (24) which consists of at least one cavity or one region of lower density than the density of an acquisition layer (19) located in said absorbent body (3) adjacent the space (24) and essentially in the same plane thereas. The acquisition layer (19) includes a material which when wetted increases in size in the thickness direction of the article (the z-direction). The article is mainly characterized in that the material in the acquisition layer (19) exhibits relatively low expansion in the plane of the article (the xy-direction) when wetted, such that the volume of the liquid-acquisition space (24) will increase by at least 100%, preferably by at least 200%, more preferably by at least 400% and most preferably by 900% when wetted.
