An apparatus for recording and reproducing a video signal and a digital audio signal of either a first or second mode is comprised of a record device for recording the video signal and selectively recording the audio signal of a first or second mode in oblique tracks on a magnetic tape wrapped around a rotary drum having a least two rotary heads through 180 degrees, a playback device for reproducing the video signal and selected digital audio signals by the rotary heads, and a detector for detecting a frequency of a reproduced signal in a predetermined portion and judging the mode of the digital audio signal.

A video tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus or VTR has a reproducing system which comprises video heads, PCM audio heads and FM audio heads, demodulating circuits associated with the video, PCM and FM heads, respectively, a switching circuit, a signal detecting circuit, and a system control circuit. The video heads, PCM heads and FM heads are adapted for reading out a video signal, a PCM audio signal, and a FM audio signal from a magnetic tape and for supplying such signals to the corresponding demodulating and signal detecting circuits. The signal detecting circuit is operable to detect which of the video, PCM and FM signals are recorded on the magnetic tape and to provide a signal indicative thereof to the system control circuit which controls the switching circuit for selectively connecting the FM and PCM audio demodulating circuits with a signal output line in response to the signal from the signal detecting circuit. Thus, the video signal and the PCM audio signal or the video signal and the FM audio signal are output to be reproduced. The VTR further includes a recording system which is adapted for recording a video signal, a PCM audio signal, and an FM audio signal in respective magnetic layers of a magnetic tape which are at different depths relative to the surface of the magnetic tape in accordance with a predetermined recording current relationship used for recording the video, FM audio and PCM audio signals so as to improve the S/N ratio of each signal when reproduced.

In tape transpart apparatus, such as for use with an 8-mm video tape recorder having an automatic track following system, during reproduction at a variable tape speed, a tracking error signal (S ATF) formed on the basis of a frequency component (Δf A or Δf B ) of a reproduced pilot signal (S PL ) is sampled and held in a sample and hold circuit (119) once per field. The sampled and held output is compared with a reference value (V REF ) in a comparator (120), the running state of the tape is positively identified in a control circuit (107) on the basis of the comparison, and tracking control responsive to the identified running state is carried out.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a successful search for a content to be recommended to a user, from recorded video contents.SOLUTION: A characteristic keyword is extracted with respect to each of plurality of scenes into which a stored video content is divided, and scores are calculated in accordance with a frequency of the extracted keyword in the scene. The calculated scores of keywords of respective video contents are accumulated per keyword to obtain cumulative values. A scene meeting a prescribed condition out of scenes from which keywords of which the obtained cumulative values of scores are equal to or larger than a threshold have been extracted or a video content including the scene is selected as a scene or a video content to be recommended.
