Abstract: A CRT-matrix type big screen display system having self-emitting type picture cells is provided with a deflection waveform as a sawtooth waveform and a deflection waveform in the other direction as a step deflection waveform crossing the picture cells. Inclination of the scanning line is eliminated so that fluctuations in display brightness thereto are avoided and a satisfactory picture display is achieved. Also in CRT-matrix type big-screen display systems, index elements or cells are provided between sets of primary color cells and in the scanning direction. At least at the start of the scanning operation, the index elements or cells are scanned and the positional information thereof is stored in a memory for use in processing a video signal to achieve a satisfactory picture display. Furthermore, prior to reproducing a picture, a photo pickup equipment is slidably moved across the big screen and positional information of primary color cells sensed thereby is stored in a memory, which positional information is used in processing a video signal so that a satisfactory picture is displayed.

Abstract: A display panel formed by arranging a plurality of picture cells in a XY matrix form. In each picture cell, a plurality ofstripe-shapedself luminous pixel elements are formed on a display screen of a tube envelope in a predetermined pitch so that their longitudinal directions are directed in the horizontal direction of the display screen. Thus, a large screen display apparatus can be made, in which a bonded portion between adjacent picture cells can be made inconspicuous. Also, a range of visual field relative to a predetermined distance from the display screen can be enlarged and the function of large screen can be sufficiently demonstrated. A cathode ray tube is also provided, in which a stepped portion is provided on the peripheral edge portion of a flat panel having a fluorescent screen formed on its inner surface, and a funnel portion is bonded to this stepped portion. Therefore, strength and dielectric strength of a tube envelope can be increased, and a visual field of picture screen can be enlarged. Further, in this cathode ray tube, the thickness of the funnel at its portion where the funnel and the panel are bonded is reduced, whereby the screen side wall portion of the tube envelope can be reduced in thickness. Furthermore, in a large screen display apparatus in which the above cathode ray tubes are arranged in a XY matrix-fashion, the stepped portion of the peripheral edge portion of the flat panel is provided outside of a line connecting the fluorescent element adjacent to the stepped portion and the end portion of the flat panel. Thus, the bonded portion can be made inconspicuous and an image of high quality and a wide visual field can be obtained.
