    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a modifier for polyester-based resins, composed of calcium carbonate powder whose surface is treated with a specific phosphorus compound, capable of providing a molding excellent in whiteness, hiding power and gloss property and useful for printing papers, X ray sensitizing papers, etc. CONSTITUTION:This modifier for polyester-based resin is composed of preferably 100-30000ppm of calcium carbonate whose surface is treated with one or more kinds of phosphorus compounds selected from a group consisting of phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, phosphinic acid, phosphonic acid and =0.1wt.% based on calcium carbonate). Furthermore, the polyester composition is obtained by kneading 5-80wt.% of the modifier with a polyester by a bent type extruder.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolyester improved in water solubility and solvent resistance and having adhesiveness, antiblocking properties, and antistatic proper ties during travelling by selecting a copolyester having residues with specific metal salt groups and a specified mol.wt. distribution. CONSTITUTION:A copolyester is selected which has residues having alkali metal sulfonate groups, a number average mol.wt. of 2,000 or higher, and a content of of molecules with a mol.wt. of 1,000 or lower of 10wt.% or lower. Pref. the copolyester has a number average mol.wt. of 2,500 or higher, a content of molecules with a mol.wt. of 1,000 or lower of 8wt.% or lower, a content of molecules with a mol.wt. of 500 or lower of 6wt.% or lower, and a content of the residues of 1-50mol%. The copolyester which is water-sol., has a content of the residues of 5-40mol%, and contains a polyoxyalkylene glycol is still pref.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolyester excellent in antistatic properties during traveling, water solubility, etc., and suitable for a magnetic recording medium by reacting a specific acid component with a glycol component. CONSTITUTION:An acid component comprises 60-95mol% at least two arom. dicarboxylic acids (e.g. terephthalic acid) and/or aliph. dicarboxylic acids and 40-5mol% alkali metal salt of an ester-forming sulfonic acid (e.g. a sodium salt of sulfoterephthalic acid), and a glycol component comprises 100mol% 2-8C aliph. glycol (ethylene glycol) and/or 6-16C alicyclic glycol. A water-sol. copolyester is produced by incorporating a polyoxyalkylene glycol (e.g. polyethylene glycol) into a coplyester formed by reacting the acid component with the glycol component under such conditions as to satisfy the relations expressed by formulas I and II [wherein A is the amt. (mol%) of the alkali metal salt; and B is the amt. (wt.%) of the polyoxyalkylene glycol].

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject copolyester containing a specified amount of residues having an alkaline metal sulfonate group and a specified amount of an alkaline metal, exhibiting a specified glass transition temperature and excellent in adhesiveness, blocking resistance, etc. CONSTITUTION:For example, terephthalic acid, an ester-forming sulfonic acid alkaline metal salt (preferably sodium 5-sulfoisophthalate, etc.) a copolymerization component (e.g. phenylindanedicarboxylic acid component) for raising the glass transition temperature and ethylene glycol are subjected to direct esterification reaction.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyester improved in antistatic properties without detriment to the surface smoothness, transparency of molded articles such as fibers, films and sheets by adding a metal sulfonate compound whose pH is adjusted to a specified value with a pH regulator to the reaction system in any arbitrary stage of the polyester production process. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a polyester by reacting a dicarboxylic acid or its esterifiable derivative with a glycol, wherein a metal sulfonate compound whose pH is adjusted to 7.5-13.0 with a pH regulator is added to the reaction system in any arbitrary stage of the polyester production process. The metal sulfonate compound is one represented by the formula: R-SO3Mm (wherein R is alkyl, alkylaryl or aryl; M is an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal; and m is 1 or 1/2). Although the above pH regulator is not particularly limited, it is desirably a quat. ammonium compound, a hydroxide, acetate or the like of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester composition improved in whiteness, covering power and gloss, by incorporating a specified amount of CaCO3 in it. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyl terephthalate is transesterified with ethylene glycol in the presence of a metal compound (e.g., manganese acetate), and a phosphorus compound (e.g., calcium dihydrogenphosphate) and 5-50wt.% CaCO3 of a mean particle diameter of 0.05-5.0mum are added to the reaction mixture. The mixture is polycondensed to obtain a polyester composition comprising at least 80mol.%, based on the total repeating units, ethylene terephthalate and having a ratio of the amount of Ca to that of P in separated particles of 0.002-0.05. A film of this composition is oriented biaxially at a draw ratio of 2.5-4.0 and heat set at 150 deg.C or higher to obtain a biaxially oriented film of a density of 0.90-1.38g/cm .
