    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the durability of magnetic surface without lowering electro-magnetic conversion characteristics by a method wherein the thickness of laminated film of thermoplastic resin A, the mean particle diameter of particle containing in the laminated film and the lengthwise thermal shrinkage factor are specified. CONSTITUTION:In biaxially stretched thermoplastic resin film, which is prepared by laminating film mainly made of thermoplastic resin A and particles at least on one side of film mainly made of thermoplastic resin B, the thickness of laminated film of the thermoplastic resin A is set to be 0.005-3mum, the mean particle diameter of particles containing in the laminated film is set to be 0.1-10 times as large as the thickness of the laminated film, the particle content in the laminated film is set to be 0.5-50wt.% and, at the same time, the lengthwise thermal shrinkage factor is set to be 0.1-5% under time conditions of 100 deg.C and 30min. Since the surface projections of the surface of the thermoplastic resin A layer are made to have proper and even height and be highly densified, the unevenness to be transferred to magnetic surface has proper and even height and is highly densified, resulting in remarkably improving the durability of the magnetic surface without impairing the S/N of magnetic medium.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To highly densify the projections developed by particles contained and to uniformize the height of the projections and, at the same time, uniformize the widthwise lamination thickness of the film concerned by a method wherein the thickness of thermoplastic resin A in unstretched sheet-like material is made to be specified times as large as the mean particle diameter of the particle containing therein and the areal biaxial draw ratio of the unstretched sheet-like material is made to be specified-fold. CONSTITUTION:By filtering melt of thermoplastic resin A before lamination through a filter, the 95% filtering accuracy of which is 30mum or less, the thickness of thermoplastic resin layer in unstretched sheet-like material is made to be 5-80 times as large as the mean particle diameter of the particle containing in the thermoplastic resin A. The unstretched sheet-like material is stretched through the stage of biaxial stretching so as to realize the areal draw ratio of (8-50)-folds. Thus, the surface projections of the film of the thermoplastic resin A layer are produced by the particles, which are equal to or slightly larger than those of the laminated film layer of the thermoplastic resin A, resulting in surely realize the high densification of the projections formed and the uniformization of their heights. At the same time, due to high draw ratio, superior physical properties as biaxially stretched thermoplastic resin film are ensured.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve durability by forming a film layer (A) essentially comprising thermoplastic resin and particles of specified particle size and containing a specified amt. of the particles. CONSTITUTION:The substrate film has a film layer (A) essentially comprising thermoplastic resin (A) and particles on at least one surface of the film. It is required that the thickness of the layer (A) is 0.005 - 3mum, preferably 0.02 - 1mum and more preferably 0.03 - 0.8mum. The average particle size of particles contained in the layer (A) is 0.1 - 10 times as large as the thickness of the layer (A), preferably 0.4 - 5 times, and more preferably 1.1 - 4 times. The amt. of particles in the layer (A) is 2 - 30wt.%, preferably 3 - 20wt.% and more preferably 2 - 15wt.% of the film layer (A). The thickness of the base film is 2 - 25mum, and preferably 3 - 20mum. Thereby, the obtd. medium has excellent durability with small reduction of S/N after repeatedly traveled.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance scratch resistance, by providing a film with such a surface that at least a specified number of protrusions formed by inactive particles are disposed in series over a length of at least a specified number times the diameter of one protrusion. CONSTITUTION:A biaxially oriented thermoplastic resin film comprises a film containing a thermoplastic resin A and inactive particles as main constituents and laminated by co-extrusion with a film containing a thermoplastic resin B as a main constituent, wherein at least 50% of protrusions formed on a film surface by the inactive particles are disposed in series over a length of at least 10 times the diameter of one such protrusion. The direction of the series of the protrusions preferably coincides with the longitudinal direction of the film, whereby the protrusions themselves are strengthened structurally. The pressure exerted per protrusion when a roll makes contact with the film surface is lowered, and the film surface is less susceptible to shaving, so that scratch resistance is enhanced. The protrusions are disposed in series over the length of at least 10 times the diameter of one protrusion, which ensures a conspicuous improving effect on scratch resistance. When the length is smaller, a large effect cannot be expected because the surface condition is little different from that in the case of substantially uniform dispersion of the protrusions.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent durability by using a thermoplastic resin containing inert particles and specifying the amt. of particles in the resin and the relation between the particle size and film thickness. CONSTITUTION:The substrate film consists of a thermoplastic resin layer (layer A) and a thermoplastic resin layer (layer B) containing inert particles formed on at least one side of the layer A. The inert particles contained in the layer B are specified to have the average particle size dB of 5 - 200 nm and incorpo rated by 1.5 - 40 wt.% into the layer B. The ratio of the thickness tB of the layer B to the average particle size dB, tB/dB, is specified to a range of 0.1 - 3.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a film extremely hard to get scratched and lessen the deteriorated quality of images at the time of dubbing by using a composition composed mainly of polyester and inactive particles and specifying the surface profile parameter on one side side surface of the film, the relationship between friction coefficient and surface parameter and the average interval of projections. CONSTITUTION:A main constituting component of polyester is one kind of structure unit such as ethylene terephthalate. As for inactive particles, substantially globular silica or the like generated from colloidal silica is desirable. The surface profile parameter sq. rt. (beta/sigma) of one surface of the film is in the range of 0.1-0.7. Also, the relationship between friction coefficient (y) and said surface parameter sq. rt. (beta/sigma) should satisfy the formulas I and II for one side of the film. sigmarepresents the standard deviation of distribution of height of surface projections, and beta is the average flatness of the projections. The average interval of the projections is 20mum or less.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title film having a surface roughness within a specified range and excellent traveling properties and suitable for use as a magnetic tape, etc., by incorporating specified amounts of a polyoxyalkylene glycol component and a higher fatty acid compd. in a polyester and molding the mixture into a film. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a polyester by polycondensing a dicarboxylic acid with a diol, 0.01-10wt% polyoxyalkylene glycol (e.g., polyethylene glycol) and 0.005-2wt% compd. mainly composed of a 10-50C higher aliph. monocarboxylic acid (e.g., stearic acid), its ester or its metal salt are added to the reaction system, each amount being based on that of the polyester. The resulting polyester is molded into a film, thus obtaining the desired polyester film having a surface roughness Ra of 0.004-0.09mum. In this way, the bleedout of the higher fatty acid compd. toward the surface of the film can be inhibited.
