    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material which can withstand the application at elevated temperature because of its high heat resistance by impregnating woven fabric of a silicon carbide fiber with a polycarbosilane polymer and heating the resultant fabric at a prescribed temperature in a carbon monoxide gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION: Woven fabric of a silicon carbide fiber is impregnated with a polycarbosilane polymer. As a polycarbosilane polymer, may be cited a polycarbosilane mainly comprising (Si-CH2 ) units or a polymetacarbosilane in which carbosilanes mutually bond to each other where at least a part of silicon atoms bonds directly to titanium of zirconium atoms or via oxygen atoms to form cross-links. Then, the impregnated product is heated in a temperature range from 200 to 1,500 deg.C in a carbon monoxide gas atmosphere to give this composite material. This composite material withstands the application under environments over 1,200 deg.C and can be used as parts of a gas turbine.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance for a current detection brush and to use the brush stably for a long period by pressing and supporting inorganic fibers with a conductive calking device. CONSTITUTION:A leakage current detection brush 1 consists of inorganic fibers 2 and a caulking device 3, and elements of the inorganic fibers 2 are Si, C, Ti or Zr and O. Iron, copper or aluminum is adopted for the material of the calking device 3. The tip of the inorganic fibers 2 of the brush 1 strikes on an earth face of a CRT from every direction, a required voltage is applied to the tip and a circuit tester is used to detect whether or not a current is leaked from the earth face. Since the brush part of the current detection brush is made of the inorganic fibers only, exfoliation of carbon like a well-known synthetic resin made mono filament covered by carbon is not caused. Thus, the wear resistance of the current detection brush is improved and the brush is used stably for a long period.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title composite material having excellent strength, elasticity and toughness by using hybrid fibers containing inorganic fibers obtained from specific polycyclic aromatic polymers as reinforcing materials and constituting matrix from a specific inorganic substance. CONSTITUTION:(A) An inorganic fiber which is obtained from a silicon- containing polycyclic aromatic polymer and comprise a carbonaceous material in a crystal arranged state, crystalline carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-C-O substance, (B) an inorganic fiber which is obtained from a polycyclic aromatic polymer containing an element selected from Ti, Zr and Hf and silicon and comprise a carbonaceous material in a crystal arranged state, crystalline carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-M-C-O substance (M is Ti, Zr or Hf) and (C) carbon fiber, glass fiber, boron fiber, etc., are prepared. Hybrid fibers containing at least one of the component A and the component B and comprising at least two selected from the component A, the component B and the component C are produced. Then the hybrid fibers are used as a reinforcing material and a carbonaceous inorganic substance having the same composition as that of the component A is utilized as matrix to give the title carbonaceous composite material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable high-temperature heating of heated material by applying and/or impregnating heat-resistant exothermic paint into wooven fabric of silicon carbide fiber to form a heating element. CONSTITUTION:A heating element 1 is made up with heat-resistant exothermic paint 3 applied to wooven fabric 2 of silicon carbide fiber. As the silicon carbide fiber constituting the wooven fabric 2, fiber which is mainly composed of SiC, fiber of Si-C-Ti-O, fiber of Si-C-Zr-O, etc., are represented. The secondary fiber is composed of inorganic material selected out of following groups: (i) amorphous material including Si, M, C and O in effect, (ii) crystalline ultra-fine particles including beta-SiC, C, MC, solid solution of beta-SiC and MC and/or MC1-x in effect with the size of 500Angstrom or smaller, or aggregate of crystalline ultra-fine particles and amorphous SiO2 and MO2 in some case, (iii) mixture of the above- mentioned (i) amorphous material and the above-mentioned (ii) aggregate (in an equation, M represents Ti or Zr, and a figure x is more than 0 and less than 1). Heating up to 1000 deg.C is thus allowed.
