Abstract: IMPROVED CROSS BEAN ROTOR A helicopter rotor having an even number of articulated blades wherein opposing blades are interconnected by a common spar passing across the rotor axis. Pitch change is introduced to the blade at the spar-blade attachment joint through a torque member connected at its outboard end to the blade joint and including a control horn at its inner end to receive pitch inputs. Drive for the rotor and support for each blade is provided by a spherical bearing directly connecting the torque member to the blade associated hub arm.

An independent fluid reservoir under centrifugal force supplies lubrication to the low-pressure side of the seal. At rest, the fluid returns to the lower reservoir chamber by gravity.

Abstract: This invention relates to a helicopter which has a rotor retractable from an elevated position to a retracted position. A first shaft projects from the helicopter fuselage and is supported therefrom for rotation about an axis of rotation. A second shaft projects from the first shaft and is connected to be drivingly rotated by the first shaft about the axis of rotation. The helicopter also includes a main lift rotor including a hub and blades, and the rotor is movable between the elevated position and a retracted position wherein the rotor hub envelops the first shaft for connection thereto. The invention also relates to a method for retracting the helicopter rotor from the second shaft to the first shaft.

Abstract: ELASTOMERIC HIGH TORQUE CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT A nearly spherical laminated elastomeric bearing has a non-circular latitudinal cross-section to accommodate high torque loads in elastomer bending rather than in shear. The nearly spherical profile of the bearing accommodates tilt primarily in shear. Both inwardly and outwardly extending lobes, or splines, are disclosed. The nearly spherical, lobed bearing is useful for a constant velocity joint.
