Abstract:
A kinesthetic exercise device comprising footwear comprises a support member (12) having an upper surface (14) adapted to a foot, two bulbous protuberances (22), one of said protuberances (22) being positioned more posteriorly than the other of said protuberances (22) a forward bulbous protuberance and a rearward bulbous protuberance, protruding from a lower surface of said support member on opposite sides of a latitudinal midline thereof, said latitudinal midline being halfway between a calcaneus support portion and a phalanges support portion of said support member, wherein a centreline extends from a calcaneus support portion of said support member to at least one of a metatarsals support position and phalanges support portion of said support member, wherein at least one of said protuberances is offset from said centreline of said support member, and wherein said footwear is adapted to support the foot only by said two bulbous protuberances when said two protuberances are placed on a ground surface.
Abstract:
An exercise device is configured to enable a user to interact with a trainer (21) in real-time communication. The exercise device (12) includes an exercise mechanism having a movable element for movement in performance of exercise by a user. Communicating with the exercise mechanism is an interface (16) adapted for gathering a first real-time signal from the user. The interface (16) communicates with a communication system for receiving a packetized second real-time signal including a synchronized control signal from the trainer. The exercise device includes an output device configured to reproduce the second real-time signal. The control signals carried by the second signal are used to control the operating parameters of the exercise mechanism in real-time.
Abstract:
An exercise device provides first and second foot-support surfaces which are each displaced by an actuator system along an arbitrary path defined in at least two dimensions over a range of at least 25 centimeters by 15 centimeters. A control system is configured to control the actuator system so as to generate an exercise path for each of the first and second foot-support surfaces. The exercise movement may be active or passive, and may be varied dynamically during an uninterrupted exercise session.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, methods and computer program products for providing an exercise device access to information stored on a portable memory device. An exercise device includes a data port which is adapted to receive the portable memory device, regardless of its format. For instance, either a Secure Digital or multimedia format memory card may be accessed through the same data port. To access the portable memory device, the exercise device stores the access protocols for each of the various formats. Upon determining that the format of the memory device, the exercise device then selectively applies the appropriate protocols, which may allow read and optionally write access to the portable memory device. The enabled communication allows the exercise device to access data stored on the memory card. The accessed data may include personal user information, exercise programs, and motivational content. The data can be delivered to the user.
Abstract:
An exercise device includes a frame defining a longitudinal axis. A foot link includes a rearward portion that is constrained to move in an orbital path approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis and a forward portion that reciprocally engages the guide track. A swing arm is a pivotally connected to the frame, the swing arm having an upper portion extending above the pivotal connection and a lower portion disposed below the pivotal connection. An engagement mechanism having a first portion coupled to the lower portion and a second portion coupled to the forward portion of the foot link, such that a rearward force applied to the upper portion will produce a force on the forward portion having a downward component. An arm enabling/disabling mechanism is positioned on the elongate swing arm below the pivotal connection. The arm enabling/disabling mechanism can be effectuated by a user without the user interrupting exercise.

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exercise device that exercises a relatively large number of muscles through a large range of elliptical motion, employs arm, shoulder, and rotational movement, and provides for safety and stability. SOLUTION: A foot link includes a rearward portion that is constrained to move in an orbital path approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis and a forward portion that reciprocally engages the guide track. A swing arm is pivotally connected to the frame, the swing arm having an upper portion extending above the pivotal connection and a lower portion disposed below the pivotal connection. An engagement mechanism having a first portion coupled to the lower portion and a second portion coupled to the forward portion of the foot link, such that rearward force applied to the upper portion will produce force on the forward portion having a downward component. An arm enabling/disabling mechanism is positioned on the elongate swing arm below the pivotal connection. The arm enabling/disabling mechanism can be effectuated by a user without the user interrupting exercise. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
