Abstract: The process results in the required sterilisation efficiency both at high water flow rates and with highly polluted water. For example, the process is suitable for sterilising swimming-pool water. Water is fed from the swimming pool via a feedline (31) to a vessel (1). A partition (2) serves to calm the water. Filter plates (18) are arranged on their side edges in a filter chamber (4) and are each provided with a suction nozzle (20) at their top ends. The suction nozzles open into a pressure equalisation chamber (21) furnished at its bottom end with a suction line (23). This arrangement produces a uniform withdrawal of liquid from the filter chamber (4). Above the intermediate spaces between the individual filter plates (18) are arranged UV radiators (28). Constituents are taken off from the water surface via a take-off orifice (29). The filtered and sterilised water is returned to the swimming pool through a pipe (32). The flow velocity of the water within the filter chamber (4) is 0.5 to 50 cm/sec, so that a long residence time results for the water within the filter chamber (4) in the radiation region of the UV radiator (28).

Abstract: A filter has a longitudinal axis with an inner diameter defined by a hollow longitudinally extending center. The filter has fingers extend radially outwardly arcuately from the longitudinal axis. The fingers have base ends near the longitudinal axis and outer edges at extremities spaced from the longitudinal axis. The outer diameter of the filter is defined by the outer edges of the fingers. The filter is formed from a sintered porous molded thermoplastic or another material resulting in a filter more rigid than standard filters. The fingers are spaced apart from one another a predetermined, substantially fixed distance to form slots therebetween sized to capture contaminants therein.

Abstract: A device (1) for separating and filtering particles and organisms from a high volume flowing liquid operating under low pressure. The device (1) includes a conical or cylindrical shape inlet chamber (3) were liquids enter tangentially creating a circular flow without creating a vortex, the liquids accelerate into a separation and filter chamber (14) where the liquids spin around a longitudinally disposed filter element (11) in the center of the chamber (14), with the centrifugal forces separating out larger and heavier particles towards the perimeter of the separation and filter chamber(14), and where smaller particles having a specific gravity closer to that of the liquid are filtered when the liquid penetrates through the filter element wall into the center of the filter element and flows out one of the longitudinal outlets of the unit. Ultraviolet light irreparably damages bacteria, microorganisms and pathogens contained in processed ballast water and may be incorporated as part of the system.

Abstract: A fluid treatment apparatus comprises a plurality of filter elements (12, 22) connected across a flow passage. Each filter (12, 22) is irradiated by UV light from respective lamps (13a, 13b, 23a, 23b), so as to kill any micro-organisms trapped on the filters. Backwashing means (18, 19, 28, 19) are provided for backwashing each filter in succession whilst fluid flowing along the passage is filtered by the other filter. In this manner micro-organisms are unable to pass through the apparatus untreated.

A fixing frame(200) is installed in an aerating bath(100) and forms the entire frame based on a transversal frame(210) and a longitudinal frame(220). A plurality of microorganism contacting nets is arranged in the fixing frame. A microorganism contacting unit is introduced into the aerating bath and purifies sewage and wastewater.
