Abstract: A catalyst loading system comprising: a vessel comprising at least one gas distribution nozzle at or near the bottom of the vessel, a top fluid distributor located at or near the top of the vessel, a catalyst inlet through which catalyst is introduced into the vessel, a first contact point at which catalyst introduced into the vessel first contacts the contents of the vessel, and a discharge outlet whereby catalyst exits the vessel. Methods of preparing catalyst slurry for introduction into a downstream reactor or in-situ activation within the vessel utilizing the catalyst loading system are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention provides a sightglass assembly for viewing the interior of a vessel, such as a reaction vessel for chemical or biochemical reactions, and is adapted to be welded to a vessel wall. The sightglass assembly comprises a window disc fused to a metal frame having a flange extending radially therefrom. The assembly is set into an appropriately sized opening in the vessel wall and the outer perimeter of the flange is welded to the vessel wall. An annular groove in the flange, surrounding the frame and window disc, absorbs stresses created by the heat of welding and thus protects the integrity of the entire unit. When installed, the sightglass assembly and inner face of the tank wall provide an easily cleanable smooth continuous surface, free of recesses and crevasses where bacteria can collect and grow or product from previous batches can accumulate and cause contamination.

Abstract: An improved sight glass for use with sampling systems employed for testing the content of chemical reaction vessels. In addition to incorporating a check valve for preventing contamination of a vacuum source, the device incorporates provision for entrapping and draining sampled fluids in the event of leakage or fracture of the glass components thereof. This is accomplished by providing an inner transparent glass tube, the inner surface of which is chemically inert, and an outer concentric tube of synthetic resinous material which surrounds the inner tube and is less subject to breakage. The cylindrical interstice between the inner and outer tubes forms a drain for retaining leakage caused by fracture of the inner tube. A floating valve cooperates with a valve seat positioned longitudinally medially of the inner and outer tubes.
