Abstract:
The disclosed invention is a fixed bed ion exchange water purification system. It employs a combination of electronically controlled process steps and specific systems configurations to duplicate the effects of moving resin beds from one operating position to another as is required in moving bed ion exchange water purification systems. The intention combines features of single fixed bed ion exchange systems with those of a moving bed system. The invention applies to the treatment of water having typical industrial and drinking water concentrations of various ions.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to methods, systems, and devices for electrically purifying liquids containing species such as minerals, salts, ions, organics, and the like. One aspect of the invention provides methods of regenerating media within an electrical purification device, for example, exposing the media to one or more eluting solutions, and/or selectively desorbing ions, organics, and/or other species from the media by exposing the media to certain eluting conditions. In yet another aspect, methods of selectively removing one or more ions, organics, and/or other species from a liquid to be purified are provided, e.g., by selective removal of one or more ions, or organics, and the like from solution that can easily precipitate, and/or cause scaling or fouling to occur. In still another aspect, the invention provides a method of treating a solution containing ions, organics, and/or other species using an electrical purification apparatus in a continuous or semi-continuous fashion, while also performing regeneration of media contained within the apparatus.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method for the treatment and purification of drinking water combines the use of an ion-exchange resin and a membrane filter (12) in a single process tank. The ion-exchange resin is removed from the process tank (14) and regenerated for reuse.
Abstract:
An ion exchange scrubber has a housing, and a partition plate installed within the housing. The partition plate partitions an inner space of the housing in longitudinal direction into two chambers that are filled with a predetermined amount of aqueous solution. The upper end portions of the two partitioned chambers communicate with each other. At least one cartridge is installed at the upper portion and has an ion exchange resin. The ion exchange resin removes a harmful substance contained in the gas. By repeatedly pumping the aqueous solution from one side chamber to the other side chamber, and immersing and cleaning the contaminated ion exchange resin in the aqueous solution, the contaminated gas can be effectively processed even with a small amount of water.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) for batch mineral recovery using ion exchange resin including, a contactor vessel (12) in fluid communication with a source of leachate (14) containing mineral ions, the contactor vessel (12) being configured to hold a mixture of said ion exchange resin (54) and leachate (60) therein, a device for forming a closed loop flow path (26) within said contactor vessel (12), and at least one elution vessel (28) in fluid communication with said contactor vessel (12), wherein, the leachate and resin are movable along the closed loop flow path (26) to assist mineral ion exchange between said leachate (60) and ion exchange resin (54), the mineral ion depleted leachate (90) being separated from the ion exchange resin thereafter and the resin being treated within the elution vessel (28) with a reagent to remove said mineral ions therefrom. The present apparatus and associated method provide a way of separating mineral ions from a leachate using ion exchange resin, wherein the loss of resin from the system is minimised.

Abstract:
A process for the removal and destruction of dissolved nitrate from water, which comprises a removal step where nitrate is eliminated from said water or effluent in the form of a more concentrated solution thereof, and a destruction step where said more concentrated nitrate solution is subjected to an electrolysis operation for nitrate destruction by electrochemical reduction thereof, the electrolysis operation being performed in several cycles in a divided cell with anolyte and catholyte compartments, where said concentrated nitrate solution is initially used as a catholyte and spent catholyte is then used as an anolyte. An apparatus suitable for performing such a process.
