An air-assisted sprayer comprises a platform, an air reservoir, a fluid reservoir, a spray cap and a dual flow valve. The air reservoir extends through the platform and is configured to receive a source of pressurized air. The fluid reservoir extends through the platform to intersect the air reservoir, and is configured to receive a source of pressurized fluid. The spray cap is configured to receive pressurized air from the air reservoir and pressurized fluid from the fluid reservoir to discharge a stream of atomized fluid from the platform. The dual flow valve is positioned within the platform to intersect the air reservoir and the fluid reservoir to simultaneously vary volumetric flow rates of the pressurized air and the pressurized fluid over a range.

A device (10) and method for dispensing a liquid and a gas from a tip includes a support structure (18), a control unit (26), and a drive unit (32). The liquid is held within a container (30a,30b). The support structure is adapted to hold the container. The control unit directs the drive unit to expel liquid from the container according to a predetermined rate. The control unit further directs the drive unit according to first, second, and third modes of operation. During the first mode, neither gas nor liquid is dispensed from the device. During the second mode, only gas is dispensed from the device. During the third mode, both gas and liquid are dispensed from the device. Furthermore, the control unit is only selectable and operable by a user through the first, second, and third modes in a sequential manner.

A two component external mix spray gun (10) having a pneumatically operated value (27) for controlling the injection of a catalyst into pattern shaping air passages in the gun. The catalyst is contacted with the atomized fluid externally to the spray gun (10). A trigger sequentially operates air (20) and fluid (35) valves to provide atomization air pattern shaping air prior to opening the fluid value (35). The pneumatic catalyst valve (27) is responsive to an increase in the air pressure downstream from the air valve (20) to inject the catalyst into the pattern shaping air. The invention may be incorporated in either a hand held spray gun with a manual trigger, or an automatic spray gun with a controller.

A circuit (10) for controlling operation of valves (12, 13) which supply atomization air and pattern shaping air and coating fluid to a spray gun. In response to a trigger signal at a trigger input (11), air is immediately supplied to the spray gun. After a predetermined time delay, fluid is supplied to the spray gun. Fluid continues for the remainder of the duration of the trigger signal and air is continued for a predetermined time after the trigger signal has ceased.
