Abstract:
An apparatus for charging a closed metallic canister with a gas under pressure comprising means for forming a gas filling opening in the canister, and dispensing means for sequentially injecting a high pressure gas through the gas filling opening to charge the canister, and depositing and fusing a fusible body in the gas filling opening, while continuing to inject gas into the canister and utilize the force of the gas to urge the dispensing means into sealing engagement with the canister being charged.

Abstract:
An improved fire-resistant above-ground storage tank for flammable and combustible materials is fabricated from steel plates of at least 10 gauge, the sheets being made from a ferrous alloy having a maximum of approximately 0.15% carbon and a maximum of approximately 0.8% manganese and the steel plates welded in a specific way resulting in a tank that can withstand a 2000.degree. F. environment for a minimum of two hours.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the lining of rounded arcuate chamber areas is disclosed. One edge of a flexible, rectangular sheet of lining material is attached to the substrate wall of the chamber by welding. The opposite end from the now attached side is compressed laterally to bow the sheet into contact with the wall. Keeper welds or attachments are made, trapping the compressive force. The installers are now free to complete the seam welds around the periphery of the sheet. In the preferred embodiment, the sheet is made of a high nickel alloy (HNA) and the arcuate chamber is a desulfurization duct or absorber tower. Successive sheets are overlapped approximately one inch on the sides and top/bottom.
Abstract:
An apparatus for seam welding is disclosed, in which a metal plate or a surface-clad metal plate in a cylindrical form with a strip-like overlap section S constituted by two overlapping edge portions is passed as process material 4 between pair roller electrodes 1 and 2 via upper and lower wire electrodes 3 for seam welding of the overlap section between the roller electrodes and also between the upper and lower wire electrodes 3 under pressure applied to the section, and also which is provided with a welding current source 8 for supplying a welding current between the roller electrodes 1 and 2. The apparatus comprises a detector disposed at a position 6a a line upstream of connecting the axes 1a and 1b of rotation of said roller electrodes for detecting at least the front end 4a said process material 4 and a control circuit 7 connected to the output side of the detector for counting the start and stop timings of supply of welding current to the roller electrodes 1 and 2 and instructing the start and stop of the welding current supply to the welding current source 8 according to the counted start and stop of the welding current supply to the welding current source 8 according to the counted start and stop timings.
Abstract:
For connecting a round hollow member (10) of sheet metal tightly to a complementary inner member (12), a force fit is produced in a narrow annular region (25) between these two members (10, 12). Then at least two electrodes (90) are applied to the hollow member (10) from the outside in the annular region and during relative rotation between the electrodes (90) on the one hand and the two members (10, 12) on the other hand, electrical resistance welding is carried out during which the welding current (I) is supplied and drawn off exclusively through the electrodes (90) bearing externally against the hollow member (10).
Abstract:
A container is constructed from a paperboard sheet having a channel including a surface area of the paperboard sheet from which paperboard material has been removed and a tear strip at least partially bounded by the channel for opening the container by separation of the paperboard sheet along the channel.
Abstract:
A wrist portion assembly for a workpiece feeding apparatus of a seam welding machine wherein a workpiece is supported through a chucking device on an operational end of a robot so that a portion of the workpiece to be welded is fed between a pair of upper and lower electrode rolls. The wrist portion includes plural turnable members. At least one of the turnable members which serves to move the chucking device upwardly and downwardly by the turning thereof is formed into an idle turnable member having no driving source.
Abstract:
A method for cladding a corrosion resistant high alloy material on surfaces of crossed cavities in a vessel of a high strength metallic material forming a valve casing or the like, the method including the steps of prefabricating first and second cladding structures of generally tubular shapes conforming with the crossed cavities from a thin sheet of a high alloy material; providing grooves on the surfaces of the crossed cavities for receiving corner members of a high alloy material to be located at joined corners of the first and second cladding structures at the intersection of the crossed cavities and end members of a high alloy material to be fitted on end portions of the cladding structures; assembling the first and second cladding structures, corner members and end rings into the crossed cavities; sealing the contacting surfaces of the assembled parts by welding the end members to the vessel and cladding structures; coalescing the assembled parts and the vessel by applying a high pressure to the cladding structures at a high temperature; and removing overlapped portions of the coalesced cladding structures at the intersection of the crossed cavities to communicate the latter with each other.
Abstract:
An improvement in a method for producing a welded metallic can body. The method involves holding and pressing a lap portion of the side marginal portions of a can body-like structure, which has been formed by bending a metal blank into a cylindrical shape, along its entire length between a pair of opposing parallel wire electrodes placed on the opposing surfaces of parallel electrodes, and passing an electric current across the parallel electrodes for a predetermined period of time during the pressing to subject the lap portion to resistance welding. At least one of the parallel electrodes is divided longitudinally into two or more portions electrically insulated from each other, and an electric current is passed through at least one of them independently from the other portions so that the temperature rise in the lap portion of the can body-like structure becomes uniform. Also disclosed is an apparatus for producing a welded metallic can body in accordance with the aforesaid method.
