The method comprising the steps of forwarding a web of said packaging material through a nip (2) provided between a an anvil roller (4) and an imprint roller (4) which are arranged against each other, said imprint roller (3) having a surface area provided with a imprinting area (6) and a non-imprinting area (7), said imprinting area (6) comprising protrusions (5) forming an imprinting pattern, imprinting the imprinting pattern into an outermost layer of said packaging material through engagement with said imprinting pattern, as said web is passing as through the nip, so as to imprint a visual or tactile pattern on the packaging material corresponding to said imprinting pattern of said imprinting area (6), and adjusting the position of said web when said non-imprinting area (7) of said surface area is facing said packaging material. The invention relates to an apparatus (10, 80) and method (160) for cutting, printing or embossing a continuous sheet (26) of material. The apparatus (10, 80) comprising a tool element (12), at least two anvils 14, 16 which are co-operable with the tool element (12), and a phase adjustment device (24). The tool element (12) is configured to have a constant surface speed during operation of the apparatus (10, 80). The apparatus (10, 80) is adapted to receive the continuous sheet (26) at a constant speed into the apparatus (10, 80), and being adapted to output the continuous sheet (26) at a constant speed from the apparatus (10, 80). The phase adjustment device (24) is operable to adjust a speed of the continuous sheet (26) within the apparatus (10, 80) in order to adjust a phase of alternate parts of the continuous sheet (26) to be cut, printed or embossed by each anvil (14, 16) as it co-operates with the tool element (12).

The device for embossing and/or perforating foils for tobacco goods contains: a pair of embossing rolls, - one of the embossing rolls having teeth (33) for perforating the foil (1), the counter roll to the embossing roll (13A) with the perforating teeth being a matrix roll (14A) which has recesses (14A) that correspond to the teeth (33) on the patrix roll (13A), both embossing rolls being arranged in a perforation device (5), and the device being designed in order to be operated directly or indirectly online in a machine for producing tobacco goods. The use of patrix-matrix embossing rolls allows for a large variety of perforations, the device having a control unit (17) designed to control the exact position, size and arrangement of the perforations on the basis of the quality of the foil (1) to be processed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exchanger unit which can exchangeably configure embossing rolls of embossing devices that are used for processing two-dimensionally expanded material.SOLUTION: The exchanger unit can be configured, for example, as a tube 2 with terminal locating surfaces 8, 9. The stand 13 of an embossing device 14 has corresponding seats 11, 12 that are adapted to the respective exchanger units 2 with high precision. The embossing rolls 1, 4 that are received in the exchanger units 2 are thus in their working positions once the embossing roll 1 is inserted and is received by the seats 11, 12 pertaining to the locating surfaces 8, 9 of the fixing elements and no further adjustment needs to be carried out. Especially the driven embossing roll 1 of such an embossing device 14 can be exchanged with substantially less effort, which makes it possible to quickly perform maintenance work and rearrange the production.
