Abstract: Process for producing fibres, film, casings and other products from modified soluble cellulose wherein the initial cellulose is hydrothermally treated at a temperature in the 100-200null C. range, under a pressure in the range from about 0.1 to 1.5 Mpa in a water/cellulose ration on a weight basis of at least 1:1 in the presence of a complex activator composed of Lewis acids and/or bases and/or their salts in an amount of at least 0.0001% by weight calculated on cellulose. The obtained modified cellulose pulp after, a possible purification, is in a dry or never dried condition, dissolved in an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxides. The dissolving is carried out at a temperature not lower than 0null C. for 1-120 minutes to obtain a homogenous spinning solution with the cellulose concentration at least 1% by weight. The alkaline cellulose solution is filtered, deaerated and coagulated by contacting it with water or aqueous acidic solutions. The produced fibres, film, casings and other products are washed with water to a neutral reaction and finished in a standard way.

Abstract: A crosslinked cellulose composite film including a regenerated cellulose matrix containing a uniform dispersion of hemp fibers and a poly(ethylene oxide) plasticizer. A method for forming the film includes mixing a slurry of the hemp, poly(ethylene oxide) and a cellulose solvent with a cellulose solution, extruding the mixture, regenerating the cellulose from the solution to form the matrix containing hemp fibers, contacting with a crosslinking agent and then drying.

Abstract: A process for producing fine cellulose particles, which comprises(1) mixing viscose with a water-soluble anionic polymeric compound or polyethylene glycol or its derivative to form a dispersion of fine particles of viscose,(2) (i) heating the dispersion or mixing it with a coagulating agent to thereby coagulate the viscose in the dispersion, and thereafter neutralizing it with an acid to form fine particles of cellulose, or (ii) coagulating and neutralizing the dispersion with an acid to form fine particles of cellulose, and(3) thereafter, separating the fine particles of cellulose from the mother liquor. The fine cellulose particles(a) are composed substantially of II-type cellulose,(b) have a crystallinity, of 5 to 35% by weight,(c) are composed substantially of particles of not more than 20 micrometers, and(d) have a sharp particle size distribution.

Abstract: A shaped article, especially a tubing, is disclosed which comprises a plasticized cellulose hydrate composition comprising a cellulose hydrate and a plasticity enhancing amount of at least one substantially water insoluble plasticizing ester of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing from about 9 to about 24 carbon atoms and a polyalcohol comprising at least two hydroxy groups at least one of which is esterified with said aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, and water and/or a plasticizer.Such shaped articles can be prepared by mixing a viscose solution with a liquid containing the plasticizing ester, introducing the resulting mixture into a precipitating bath and drying the precipitated shaped body. Tube-shaped articles are especially suited as sausage casings.

Abstract: A modified regenerated cellulose film comprising regenerated cellulose and certain modified starches is clear and transparent and has substantially the same mechanical and optical properties as conventional unmodified regenerated cellulose films. The modified starches used are starches degraded by oxidation and/or hydrolysis, uncrosslinked ethers or esters of starch or of starches degraded by oxidation and/or hydrolysis or mixtures thereof. The amount of modified starch used represents 1 to 49% by weight, preferably 5 to 30% by weight, based on the total weight of cellulose and modified starch. Methods for the production of said modified regenerated cellulose film either by the viscose process or by the cuprammonium process are also described.
