Abstract:
Aqueous structured surfactants, e.g., lamellar, or preferably spherulitic systems optionally containing suspended solids are used as functional fluids, such as drilling fluids, cutting fluids, hydraulic fluids, heat transfer fluids, construction muds and lubricants. A composition consisting essentially of: water; a surfactant or mixture of surfactants present in a concentration sufficient to form a mobile spherulitic or dispersed lamellar phase in the absence of an electrolyte; and a substantially water insoluble functional material, suspended in the composition, the composition being substantially free from electrolyte.
Abstract:
Railroad wheel flange lubricating is carried out with a lubricating composition which is particularly useful in a locomotive-mounted applicator. The water base lubricant comprises a compatible blend of two polyoxyalkylene glycols, one a synthetic lubricant and the other a synthetic thickener. The lubricating composition is persistent and environmentally innocuous.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a grease composition comprising a major amount of a lubricating oil base vehicle, a lithium gellant in an amount sufficient to thicken the base vehicle to grease consistency, an alkali-metal borate in an amount sufficient to impart extreme-pressure properties to the grease and from 0.1 to 10.0 mass percent of antimony dithiocarbamate.
Abstract:
A method of treating steel sheets which have good corrosion resistance after forming, which comprises coating a steel sheet with a solution which contains:(a) water-soluble or water-dispersible lithium silicate at a concentration of 2 to 250 g/l, which lithium silicate is a mixture of silicic acid or silicate and lithium salt in a molar ratio of 20:1 to 1:1.(b) at least one water-soluble or water-dispersible saturated or unsaturated fatty acid compound, higher alcohol wax, polyethylene type resin, fluorine type resin or silicone type resin at a concentration of 1 to 250 g/l.
Abstract:
Method and composition for applying a coating to a metallic surface, the surface being immersed in an acidic aqueous coating composition comprising dispersed solid particles of an organic polymeric resinous coating-forming material and an oxidizing agent, wherein the weight or thickness of the coating formed on the surface is a function of the time the surface is immersed in the composition.
Abstract:
A metallic surface is coated with a polymeric resinous coating by immersing the surface in an acidic aqueous coating composition comprising polymeric resinous coating-forming material and an oxidizing agent. The corrosion resistance and/or the surface appearance of the resinous coating is modified by rinsing the coating with an aqueous rinse solution containing hexavalent chromium or an aqueous rinse solution containing hexavalent chromium and reduced forms of chromium.
Abstract:
Acidic aqueous coating compositions containing an organic coating-forming material form coatings on metallic surfaces which are immersed therein. The thickness or weight of the coating formed by the coating composition is a function of the time the metallic surface is immersed in the composition. The resulting coatings have adhesion properties thereby providing an adherent base to which other coatings, for example, paint primers and/or final finish paints can be applied.
Abstract:
An extreme pressure lubricating composition having excellent water tolerance properties and excellent compatibility with other lubricating oil additives comprises (A) an oil of lubricating viscosity, (B) an alkali metal borate at least partially neutralized with the acidic anion of phosphoric acid or sulfuric acid, and (C) a mixture of lipophilic dispersants.
Abstract:
METHOD FOR APPLYING A COATING TO A METALLIC SURFACE, THE SURFACE BEING IMMERSED IN AN ACIDIC AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITION COMPRISING AN ORGANIC COATING-FORMING MATERIAL, AN OXIDIZING AGENT, HYDROGEN ION AND AN ANION, WHEREIN THE WEIGHT OF THE COATING FORMED ON THE SURFACE CAN BE CONTROLLED BY THE TIME THE SURFACE IS IMMERSED IN THE COMPOSITION.
