Abstract:
This invention discloses novel catalyzed lubricant additives and catalyzed lubricant systems, which contain one or more catalysts, along with optional other additives, wherein the catalysts serve to accelerate the rate and increase the yield of the lubricant bonding reactions between the catalyzed lubricants and the wear surfaces being lubricated.

Abstract:
A composition of matter for use in tribological applications, such as in mechanical seals, bearings and other sliding or rubbing components, which provides good durability and wear characteristics. The material is used in the "softer" one of two relatively sliding members which are in, or may come into, contact with each other during the relative rotation of one of the members relative to the other. The material is a carbon or carbonaceous formed material, such as is normally used in the manufacture of a primary seal ring in a mechanical seal, and comprises an additive compound which contains at least one compound from a group consisting of neodymium fluoride, praseodymium fluoride, gadolinium fluoride and lanthanum fluoride.
Abstract:
This invention relates to perfluoroalkyl group terminated urethanes, thiourethanes and ureas of the general formula: (R-X-CONH)mA where m is 1, 2, or 3, R is Rf-E and optionally R1 with the proviso that at least one R is Rf-E, Rf is a perfluoroalkyl group, R1 is a hydrocarbon group, E is a linkage group, X is -O-, -S-, -NHR2- and R2 is H or lower alkyl and A is RfE or R1 if m is 1 and a divalent or trivalent linkage group if m is 2 or 3 respectively. Compounds of this general formula are useful as solid lubricants or as additives for waxes and resins providing lubricating properties.
Abstract:
A parting agent for die casting comprising an emulsion based on animal or vegetable oil, mineral oil, fatty acid and its ester and, added thereto, 10 to 10,000 ppm of an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. The metal salt serves to prevent micelle formation of the aqueous emulsion of the parting agent, thus forming a stable emulsion, is scarcely affected by temperature, and forms a water-soluble complex with a divalent metal ion, so that no precipitate is formed even when hard water is used to dilute a parting agent.
Abstract:
A method for lubricating a metal workpiece during a metalworking process includes delivering supercritical carbon dioxide to the workpiece during the metalworking process. The supercritical carbon dioxide acts as a lubricant, coolant, chip evacuator, and/or carrier for another lubricant or corrosion inhibitor.
Abstract:
An aqueous cutting fluid comprising a cationic water-soluble resin having an amino value of 20 to 200 mg KOH/g and at least one viscosity modifier selected from among inorganic and organic bentonites and aqueous silica sols, wherein the content of nonvolatiles in the viscosity modifier is 0.1 to 30 wt.% based on the nonvolatiles in the resin; an aqueous cutting agent prepared by incorporating abrasive grains into the fluid in an amount of 100 to 1000 wt.% based on the nonvolatiles of the fluid, which is excellent in the dispersion stability of abrasive grains and viscosity stability and effective particularly for wire saws; and a process for cutting hard brittle materials by the use of a cutting tool and the cutting agent, which permits high-accuracy processing of the hard brittle materials and excellent cleaning thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for mechanical working of metal and other solid materials as well as glass with a cooling and lubricating composition containing a major portion of carbon dioxide and a minor portion of a polar lubricant containing at least one polar organic compound with at least one oxygen atom. The polar groups may be selected from the group consisting of the ether, hydroxyl, carboxyl, ester and amido group or mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
Proposed is the use, as corrosion inhibitors in oil-containing liquids, of nitrogen-free aromatic hydroxy compounds with a phenolic hydroxy group and with a pKS-value for the phenolic hydroxy group in the range 7.0 to 11, represented by esters or ketones.
Abstract:
A solid film lubricant system for protecting metal wear interfaces subject to high temperatures and wet lubrications, comprising an oil-attracting solid lubricant mixture (A) with at least two elements (A1, A2, A3) selected from the group of graphite, MoS2 and BN; a support (B) (i.e., hard lands or hard sublayer) for the mixture to loads of at least 10 psi at temperatures of 600-800 DEG F while being thermally stable; a thermally stable thermoset polymer matrix adhering the mixture to the support or the wear surface, the polymer having inherent hydrocarbon chemical attraction to form a tenacious oil film of the lubricating oil on the wearing surfaces, such as cylinder bore surfaces of a cylinder block of an internal combustion engine.
