    Abstract: A module for use in constructing a pathway for traffic comprises a base member having a perimeter edge. The base member defines a lateral groove disposed at the perimeter edge and a tongue structure disposed at the perimeter edge and shaped and dimensioned to be received in the lateral groove. The tongue structure comprises a plurality of tongue portions, and includes a first type of tongue portion and a second type of tongue portion disposed in alternating relation generally along the length of the tongue structure, to thereby define a throughpassage for receiving a securing rod therethrough. To form a pathway for traffic, the modules are placed in perimeter-edge to perimeter-edge relation one to the next, with the tongue structure of the modules inserted into the lateral groove of an adjacent module, and are secured together by the securing rod.

    Abstract: A multi-layered sports playing field including a top layer made of substantially artificial material simulating a natural playing surface such as grass and a padding layer positioned between the top layer and the base or dirt layer. The padding layer is made of a plurality of discrete beads of substantially elastic, resilient material (e.g., foam) with portions of adjacent beads abutting one another and other portions being spaced from each other. Substantially all of the adjacent beads are preferably integrally joined (e.g., glued, fused) together at their abutting portions. The padding layer is very porous and breathable and preferably includes feet members supporting the main body of the padding layer above the base or dirt layer to create a water channel of interconnected portions to enhance water drainage to the sides of the field.

    Abstract: A modular surfacing mat that includes a base mat, a top mat secured to the base mat with an adhesive, and a top coat applied to the top of the top mat to form a protective finish. The top coat may be any coating that provides a protective top finish on the mat, and is preferably a polyurea or polyurethane. The top coat may include a colorant. The top mat is preferably at least partially made from rubber. For example, recycled rubber may be used. The adhesive that bonds the top mat to the base mat is preferably a polyurethane or a polyurea. The base mat is preferably made from a cellular foam structure. For example, cellular foam strucutre may be closed cell polyethylene foam nuggets fused together in a crosslinked matrix.
