Abstract:
The protection of data against illicit transfer with respect to specific data can be ensured. An integrated receiver decoder determines whether or not ATRAC (Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding) data requiring authentication is contained in selected piece-of-music data in accordance with determination data added into transmitted data. When ATRAC data requiring authentication is contained, the integrated receiver decoder performs an authentication process between it and a storage which is a transfer destination of the ATRAC data, and performs downloading of the ATRAC data after confirming that the storage is a valid apparatus to which the downloading may be performed.
Abstract:
A method and system for communicating information via a plurality of different networks may comprise circuitry in a mobile terminal that receives broadcast information via a VHF/UHF broadcast communication path and simultaneously receives in the mobile terminal, cellular information via a cellular communication path. The system may further comprise circuitry in the mobile terminal that switches between processing of the broadcast information received via the VHF/UHF broadcast communication path and the cellular information received via the cellular communication path based on a measured broadcast signal statistic associated with a signal bearing the broadcast information and a measured cellular signal statistic associated with a signal bearing the cellular information. The broadcast information and the cellular information may be the same information. The broadcast information and the cellular information may comprise video data. The cellular information may comprise voice data.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing RSS content in a broadcast system. According to one embodiment, a method for providing RSS content in a broadcast system comprises the acts of: periodically retrieving, at a broadcast station (102), RSS content from at least one remote source (110) storing the RSS content; parsing the retrieved RSS content to generate transformed RSS content; formatting the transformed RSS content; and transmitting the formatted transformed RSS content from the broadcast station (102) to a plurality of receivers (106). According to another embodiment, a “user initiated retrieval” method retrieves RSS content from at least one remote source (110) storing the RSS content only in response to a user initiated request.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for acquiring and delivering services to a user device. A user device determines a network address associated with one or more servers providing unicast services. The device is activated and receives an interface for receiving multicast services from a content server. The user device then subscribes to one or more multicast services and receives content.
Abstract:
A method and system for mobile architecture supporting cellular or wireless networks and broadcast utilizing a single chip cellular and single chip broadcast silicon solution is provided. Aspects of the system may comprise circuitry that receives a plurality of cellular frequency band communications services, services which comprise at least one voice service and at least one data service, in a single cellular processor integrated circuit within a mobile terminal. In addition, the system may comprise circuitry that receives VHF/UHF band broadcast services in a single broadcast processor integrated circuit within the mobile terminal. The plurality of cellular frequency band communications services may operate independently from the VHF/UHF band broadcast services at the mobile terminal.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for utilizing a high bandwidth communications channel for broadcasting network data during off-peak hours is disclosed. A demodulation unit includes, 1) a standard television broadcast signal receiver, the signal having a plurality of channels; 2) a partitioning unit configured to partition at least one channel of said plurality of channels into a plurality of variable size sub-channels; 3) a modulating unit configured to modulate a variety of different types of information into said plurality of sub-channels; and 4) a transmitter configured to transmit said plurality of sub-channels over a high bandwidth communications channel during off-peak hours.
Abstract:
A system for distributing digital data over a video channel to a plurality of remotely located client terminals. The system involves selecting a set of digital data to be distributed and converting it to an intermediate format compatible with video broadcast. The intermediate data is then broadcast over a video channel during a time when no video content is being transmitted so that the intermediate format data takes the place of the video content. The intermediate format data is received at a remotely located client terminal where the set of digital data is recovered.
Abstract:
A digital broadcast network (1) operating in a hierarchical mode is described. The network (1) includes means (35) for classifying the data types making up the content to be broadcast. In accordance with the classification, the network (1) transmits the data types in an appropriate mode. In addition, there is described a method of defining a set of profiles in accordance with which content of a particular data type is assigned to a particular mode for transmission.
Abstract:
A broadcast network 1 is described in which to improve network efficiency and quality of service, a particular transmitter 11a within the network 1 is selected to transmit content to a particular, preferably mobile terminal 3. The selection of the transmitter 11a is carried out by reference to information available in a second network 27, the user of the terminal 3 having a further terminal 12 connected to the second network 27 and either integrated with or in close proximity to their mobile terminal 3.
Abstract:
A system and method for accessing Internet-based and other information through a user television in a television distribution network enables a user to access and view information which is related to the programming content of a currently viewed television broadcast. This concept, known as channel hyperlinking, enables a television viewer to download Internet Web pages, and the like, which are related to a currently viewed advertisement, program, newscast, etc. To facilitate channel hyperlinking, each user of the system sends channel hyperlink requests through an upstream channel to a network headend by actuating a hyperlink button on a television remote control, for example. The network headend is interfaced to the Internet by means of an Internet Service Provider (ISP), and downloads HTML Web page data from the Internet to the requesting user. Each television broadcast to be linked to the Internet-based or other information is transmitted by the original broadcaster with an identification tag which identifies the Universal Resource Locator (URL) or address where the program content related information is located. The headend uses the ID tag with channel and time of request information to identify the location of the information to be downloaded to the user. Preferably, the information is pre-cached from the ISP to a headend cache in advance of the broadcast to facilitate quicker downloading of the information to the user.
