Abstract:
An electronic camera system includes a programmable transmission capability for selectively transmitting electronic image data to a plurality of remote base units. In one embodiment, a camera module is detachably coupled to a portable computer including a display screen and a data entry device. The electronic image data generated by the camera module is supplied to the portable computer for display on the display screen. The data entry device is used by an operator to select which of the plurality of base units are to receive the digital image data. The digital image data is supplied by the portable computer to a radio-frequency transmitter module for transmission to the selected base units. The radio-frequency transmitter module is formed either integral with the portable computer or, like the camera module, is detachably coupled to the portable computer. In a further embodiment, a combined telephone/camera unit is provided that includes a camera module for generating electronic image data representative of a scene to be imaged, a memory unit for storing the electronic image data generated by the camera module, a display screen for displaying the electronic image data stored in the memory unit, a mechanism for selecting which of the plurality of base units is to receive the digital image data, and a cellular transceiver for transmitting the digital image data to the base units selected by the selection mechanism.
Abstract:
A hand-held scanner is provided for reading characters from a string of characters recorded on a substrate. The scanner may be held like a pen and moved, in contact with the substrate, along the string of characters. Movement of the scanner is sensed by a sensor. An optical system views a small area of the substrate and an optical detector detects the relative intensity of light reflected from each of several points in the area of view. To facilitate tracking, a portion of the string of characters adjacent to the area of view is clearly visible to the user. The scanner includes memory for storing codes representing individual characters. The scanner may include a computer, connected by a cable, or may be self-contained and battery operated.

Abstract:
A digital camera system includes a digital camera unit, and an authenticating unit in which unique setup control data of the digital camera unit is stored. The digital camera unit includes an imaging module that picks up an object image to generate image data, a first human body communication module that conducts communication via a human body, and a first controller that performs a setup operation related to at least one of a plurality of functions of the digital camera unit according to the setup control data received from the authenticating unit by the first human body communication module. In addition, the authenticating unit includes a second human body communication module that conducts communication via the human body, a setup control data storing unit in which the setup control data is stored, and a second controller that causes the setup control data to be transmitted to the digital camera unit via the second human body communication module.
Abstract:
An imaging and recording apparatus for electrically recording an optical image of a subject as an image information signal which facilitates memory access from an external device and prevents image information from being changed. Upon manipulation of a recording trigger switch (5), an image outputted from a camera signal processing circuit (17) at that time is written into a semiconductor memory (12), then subjected to data compression in a data compression circuit (21), and stored in a semiconductor memory (13). It is now assumed that an external device not illustrated is connected to a connector (14) and this external device orders taking in the image of the semiconductor memory (13). If at this time the semiconductor memory (13) is writing an image, a state detection circuit (23) detects the fact and inhibits the external device from taking in the image. Furthermore, while the external device is taking in the image of the semiconductor memory (13), the state detection circuit (23) detects this fact. Even if the recording trigger switch (5) is manipulated, an AND gate (6) turns off in response to an output of the state detection circuit and inhibits image writing into the semiconductor memory (13).

Abstract:
An electronic photo album is described (Fig. 3A). The electronic photo album provides a way to share electronic photographs with the same ease that regular photographs are shared. The electronic photo album includes a display (200) for reviewing the digital images and an interface (100) to receive images from a digital camera, a flash card, a floppy disc, and the like. The electronic photo album stores digital images internally in a mass storage device configured as a disc drive, flash ram, and the like. On command, the electronic photo album displays the stored images on the display (200) for people to look at and share. The photo album also provides image output capability for displaying the images on televisions, computer monitors, printers, etc.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus, including an image processing unit, a controller, a power source, and a USB interface with a connector and a current detector, is provided. The controller starts delivering power to an external device through the USB interface by controlling the power source in a case where connection with the external device is detected, and, in a case where a job requiring the image processing unit to process an images is received, and in a case where a difference between a smallest value and a largest value among current values detected by the current detector within a predetermined length of time while the power is delivered to the external device exceeds a threshold value, the controller commands the USB interface to restrict power delivery to the external device.
