Abstract:
Disclosed is a magnification device for use by blind and/or low vision individuals. The device includes an X-Y table upon which an item to be magnified can be placed. A stationary camera arm and a pivotal monitor arm are oriented over the X-Y table. The monitor arm includes a video monitor pivotally mounted at its distal end. The camera arm also includes two laterally disposed lighting arms. A series of controls are provided along a lower edge of the monitor via a mounting bracket.
Abstract:
A computer peripheral that operates either as a computer mouse or as a scanner. The peripheral includes navigation sensors that generate information on motion of the device and an image array that captures successive image frames of an object being scanned. In a mouse mode, the peripheral periodically transfers readings from the navigation sensors to a computing device so that the computing device can track a position of the device. In a scanner mode, in addition to obtaining navigation information from the navigation sensors, the peripheral also captures image frames as it is moved across the object. Operation of the navigation sensors and image array may be synchronized such that an association between the image data and the navigation information may be generated and maintained as image frames are transferred to the computing device, even if some of the frames are dropped in transmission between the scanner-mouse and a computer.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a digital tracing device, characterized in that it comprises comprising a planar acquisition element (3) for digitizing a document (7), and a planar viewing element (5) mounted on said planar acquisition element (3) for displaying said digitized document, and a planar interaction element (31) mounted on said planar viewing element (5) and coupled to a data processing element.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a portable and hand-held scanning device comprising an on/off button (2) mounted to the top of the housing. The user must maintain the on/off button (2) in a pressed position, or an "on" position, for the device to function for the duration of a scanning operation. The device further comprises an LCD display (23) enabling the user to view individual scan lines. The user can scroll through the scan lines by means of a thumb-wheel (24).
Abstract:
Disclosed are several embodiments of panning and zooming devices that may assist individuals with low vision. The present invention employs imaging devices that capture an image and then select a smaller portion of the image for full display. The size of the selected portion of the captured image determines the magnification that is achieved. Further, different portions of the captured image can be selected to provide for panning of the image. In this fashion, a stationary mounted camera can be used which allows an image to be both panned and zoomed. Further, automated techniques can be used for panning and zooming control. Small aperture optics are used so that images can be focused for a large depth of field which allows the present invention to be employed without the necessity for using expensive optical focusing techniques. Also disclosed is an electronic telescope/microscope that provides a bright image that can be zoomed to provide different magnifications. Another embodiment utilizes eyewear having displays mounted in front of the users' eyes and a camera mounted on the eyewear.
Abstract:
A device for recording information has a sensor (8) for recording a primary image of the information, a display (25) for showing a secondary image which constitutes at least part of the primary image, and control means (20, 27), with the aid of which a user can define on which sub-image of the primary image an operation is to be performed. Methods of recording information are also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method for copying a pamphlet is provided to secure the capacity of a memory and then perform scanning of the next document. A scanning member scans the document fed through an ADF(Auto Document Feeder)(S200). The scanned document data are stored in a memory under the control of a control member. The control member discriminates whether the memory full is generated during scanning(S205). If the memory full is not generated during scanning, a page arrangement member arranges the pages of the document data stored in the memory so that the data are printed as a pamphlet(S210). The printing member prints the data according to the arranged order(S215).
Abstract:
PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a scanning method thereof are provided to exactly scan or copy a plurality of page in a predetermined size. CONSTITUTION: An image reading unit performs the pre-scanning of a scanning target page(S910). A detection unit establishes a scan data creation domain on an image freely scanned(S920). The detection unit detects the relative location of the scan data creation domain out of the scan area of a page mainly scanned(S930). A control unit readjusts the scan data creation domain through the detected relative location(S940). The control unit controls the production of scan data for the readjusted scan data creation domain(S950).
