Abstract:
An image reader is provided, which includes a feeder feeding a document sheet, a first reading sensor, a first reference member, a moving mechanism moving the first reading sensor to a document reading position to read an image of the document sheet and a reference reading position to read an image of the first reference member, and a controller that controls the moving mechanism to move the first reading sensor to the reference reading position, controls the first reading sensor to read the image of the first reference member, and controls the moving mechanism to move the first reading sensor to the document reading position after the first reading sensor reads the image of the first reference member. The controller controls the feeder to start feeding the document sheet to the document reading position before the first reading sensor reaches the document reading position from the reference reading position.
Abstract:
Multiple enhancements are provided to a smart copy function of an imaging device to improve performance by making it operate in a time efficient manner. The enhancements include determining pre-positioning of the scan bar based upon the content type setting in the user interface. The smart copy function is also enhanced by determining when to implement and implementing a second pre-scan at a higher resolution when misidentification occurs. Another enhancement uses original size and edge to edge properties to determine content of the original document, which then allows optimal selection of the final copy scan and print parameters.
Abstract:
A medium position determining device includes a sensor, and a scanning carriage that is configured to move in a reciprocating manner in a scanning direction, in which the sensor is mounted to the scanning carriage. The device also includes a controller that is configured to move the scanning carriage and to determine a position of the scanning carriage with respect to the medium when the scanning carriage moves; in the scanning direction. Moreover, the controller moves the scanning carriage at a first speed in the scanning direction, and after the controller determines that the scanning carriage is in a first position with respect to the medium, the controller moves the scanning carriage in the scanning direction at a second speed that is greater than the first speed.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus having a movable image reading unit, a locking mechanism locking the image reading device, and a position sensor. The image reading unit has an engaged portion. The lock mechanism has an engaging portion that engages the engaged portion. A first detected portion changes its position in accordance with the movement of the engaging portion. The position sensor detects the image reading unit when the image reading unit is in a first position, and detects the first detected portion when the engaging portion engages with the engaged portion.
Abstract:
An accumulation unit accumulates, in a 1-line element corresponding to the main scanning direction, an electrical signal prepared by photoelectrically converting optical image information obtained by scanning an original image to be formed with a carriage in the subscanning direction. A magnification setting unit sets the copy magnification. A speed change unit changes the moving speed of the carriage in accordance with the copy magnification, and when the set copy magnification is equal to or smaller than a certain magnification in reduction, changes the carriage moving speed to 1/n (n: a natural number larger than 1) from the relationship between the current magnification and the carriage moving speed. A preprocessing unit converts the electrical signal into a digital signal, has a line memory for storing 1-line input image data in the main scanning direction, performs arithmetic processing for multilevel n-line data in the main scanning direction to change the subscanning magnification in reduction, and outputs 1-line output image data in the main scanning direction. An image data processing unit performs predetermined image data processing including processing of receiving for each pixel the 1-line output image data in the main scanning direction output from the preprocessing unit, and converting the image data into binary data.
Abstract:
When a carriage goes forth, a scan motor is first acceleratively operated, then is operated by a constant speed, and finally is operated deceleratively. When the carriage goes back, the scan motor is operated by a constant speed from beginning to end.
Abstract:
A method for scanning successive images including the steps of scanning a first image bearing media employing a top to bottom scan direction and scanning a second image bearing media employing a bottom to top scan direction.
Abstract:
There is disclosed an electronic printing apparatus which prints images on sucessive individual film units held in a cassette. A carriage assembly which mounts the cassette can be driven by a driving mechanism in different directions and at different speeds in response to a coupling mechanism being actuated by an actuator assembly. The acutator assembly includes a coil spring which is wrapped on a lead screw of the driving mechanism for actuating a coupling member of the coupling mechanism.
Abstract:
A data generating apparatus (20) and a data generating method generate imposition data for imposing a plurality of pages on a print medium (36). A recording medium (68) stores therein a program which enables a computer to function as an apparatus for generating such imposition data. After imposition data have been converted from grid data into fold data, trials are performed to fold a hypothetical print medium (100) based on the converted fold data, so that pages, which are superimposed by folding the hypothetical print medium (100), have sequential page numbers and are oriented in one direction. Results of the trials are acquired as fold information for folding an actual print medium (36).
