Abstract:
57 A powder spray gun which, in the present preferred embodiment, is particularly adapted for spraying a particulate powder spray onto the interior surfaces of containers and other target objects in a confined area. The apparatus includes a rigid tubular support member and a flexible powder transport tube. The rigid support member carries a high voltage cable having a charging electrode at one end. The flexible tube terminates in a discharge nozzle which may be adjustably mounted to the support member adjacent the charging electrode so as to permit variation of the angle at which the powder is released from the nozzle relative to the longitudinal axis of the support member. Intermediate the discharge nozzle and an upstream portion of the powder transport tube which is connected to the support member, the flexible tube is smoothly curved so as to prevent any sharp corners in the transport tube or the nozzle within which powder could collect and interrupt smooth, even discharge of powder from the gun.
Abstract:
Apparatus, particularly electrostatic spraying apparatus, comprising a container and an enabling device wherein the container has a discharge valve that is held in the closed position by sprung member(s) that can be urged out of engagement, so as to permit valve actuation, upon connection of the enabling device to the container.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A container for a liquid to be electrostatically sprayed, suitable for mounting on a holder carrying a high voltage generator, a power source, a field intensifying electrode, and electrical connection for connecting the fieldintensify- ing electrode to one output terminal of the high voltage generator, the container having: a spray nozzle at least part of the surface of which is electrically conductive; mounting means for locating the container on the holder with the nozzle adjacent the field-adjusting electrode and insulated therefrom; electrical connections from the nozzle to a contact on the mounting means so placed that when the container is located on the holder by the mounting means the contact can make connection with the other output terminal of the high voltage generator; and a closure or seal for closing the nozzle prior to location on the apparatus. Also disclosed holders for use with such containers; and improved nozzle designs.
Abstract:
Electrostatic spraying of a liquid from an applicator on to a substrate. Of primary importance for spraying ink from hand-held devices or in computer graphic work. The spraying is controlled by variation of a control electrode between an operative and an inoperative state; the control electrode, e.g. a needle, being positioned so as to affect the electrostatic field when activated and prevent spraying.
Abstract:
An apparatus for spraying liquids from a vehicle, suitably an aircraft or other airborne vehicle. The apparatus includes at least two sprayheads, each having adjacent thereto an associated electrode or an associated electrically conducting or semiconducting part of the vehicle. Generator means apply potentials to the sprayheads and to the electrodes or conducting or semiconducting parts of the vehicle so that an intense electrical field is developed between the liquid which emerges from each sprayhead and the adjacent electrode or part. The intensity of each field is sufficient to atomise the emerging liquid. The polarities of the applied potentials are such that liquid emerging from one sprayhead is charged positively whilst liquid emerging from the other sprayhead is charged negatively. Connections to the generating means are such that electrical current flows from a target to the generating means via spraying liquid and one of the sprayheads and then back to the target via the generating means, the other sprayhead and liquid emerging from the other sprayhead.
Abstract:
An electrostatic paint spraygun comprising a needle-shaped electrode centrally seated in the paint channel supplying the paint to the spray nozzle and projecting slightly beyond the spray nozzle is designed such that the electrode is composed of two needles disposed coaxially one behind the other, whereby the back needle is secured to the pistol tube and the front needle is secured to a closure part containing the spray nozzle and put in place on the pistol tube. When the closure part is in place, the back electrode needle represents the electrical connection to the front electrode needle, whereas, when the closure part is removed, the tip of the back electrode needle projects freely beyond the mouth of the pistol tube.
Abstract:
A spray head for a spray nozzle including a hood providing a surface extending forward from the nozzle and also supporting insulating mountings for electrodes energisable to exert an inductive charging field or spray from the nozzle. The surface is earthed or earthy in operation to encourage collection of stray or return spray and stop stray or return spray affecting the charging field by landing the electrodes or their mountings. The collected spray may be retained as liquid or caused to flow to projections to again leave the spray head as small droplets. The field from the electrodes may shape the spray.
