Abstract:
This invention discloses novel catalyzed surface composition altering formulations and methods and catalyzed surface coating formulations and methods, which contain one or more catalysts, along with optional other ingredients, wherein the catalysts serve to effect in situ chemical bonding reactions in that the catalysts function to initiate, to promote, to accelerate, and/or to increase the formation and yield of persistent, solid, corrosion-resistant, impact-resistant, wear-resistant, and/or non-stick surface compositions and surface coating films, which may exhibit pigmentation and other aesthetic features, and may be designed to be environmentally benign. The disclosed formulation and methods may be used to alter the surface composition and to coat the surfaces of vehicles, such as aircraft, and to improve the anti-icing characteristics of the vehicle surfaces.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition containing an organic molybdenum compound having excellent oxidation stability that provides lubricity for long periods of time is provided. The lubricant comprises a molybdenum amine compound obtained by reacting a compound containing a hexavalent molybdenum atom with an amine represented by the following formula (1): wherein each of R1 to R3 represents a hydrogen atom and/or a hydrocarbon group, and at least one of R1 to R3 is a chain hydrocarbon group having 14 or more carbon atoms; or the following formula (2) wherein R4 represents a chain hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms, s represents 0 or 1, X and/or Y represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, an alkanol group or an alkyl amino group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and X and Y are not hydrogen atoms or hydrocarbon groups at the same time when s is 0. A lubricating composition containing the lubricant is also provided.
Abstract:
A water-soluble cutting fluid which is characterized by excellent cooling and lubricating properties and does not exert a harmful influence on the environment. A solution containing hydrogencarbonate ion, bromide ion, carbonic acid ion, and, if necessary, fluoride ion, and being adjusted to a pH of 7.0 to 11.5 can be used as a substitute for a cutting oil. A water-soluble cutting fluid further including additives such as rust-preventive agents and the like can be also used as a substitute for conventional cutting oil.
Abstract:
A new organic lubricant for lubricating and cooling tools. The inventive composition is prepared by soaking an amount of okra in a volume of water for a length of time and then straining said okra from the mixture of water and okra so that the remaining mixture forms the organic lubricant. Optionally, the remaining mixture may further evaporated to form a concentrated version of the organic lubricant. Also optionally, preservatives may be added to the organic lubricant to delay the fermentation or decomposition of the organic lubricant.
Abstract:
Aqueous structured surfactants, e.g., lamellar, or preferably spherulitic systems optionally containing suspended solids are used as functional fluids, such as drilling fluids, cutting fluids, hydraulic fluids, heat transfer fluids, construction muds and lubricants. A composition consisting essentially of: water; a surfactant or mixture of surfactants present in a concentration sufficient to form a mobile spherulitic or dispersed lamellar phase in the absence of an electrolyte; and a substantially water insoluble functional material, suspended in the composition, the composition being substantially free from electrolyte.
Abstract:
This invention provides oil-soluble complexes of oil-insoluble phosphorus-free strong mineral acids and alcohols. The complexes are useful antiwear additives in lubricating oils, particularly automatic transmission fluids.
Abstract:
The coefficient of friction of aluminum can surfaces after alkaline cleaning and drying can be substantially reduced by adding to the alkaline cleaner a mobility enhancing additive, preferably a surface active quaternary ammonium salt with hydroxyethyl substituents on the quaternary nitrogen atoms. A can surface suitable for automatic conveying and high quality lacquer or printing ink adhesion can thereby be obtained, if desired without including any substantial fluoride content in any treatment stage.
Abstract:
Railroad wheel flange lubricating is carried out with a lubricating composition which is particularly useful in a locomotive-mounted applicator. The water base lubricant comprises a compatible blend of two polyoxyalkylene glycols, one a synthetic lubricant and the other a synthetic thickener. The lubricating composition is persistent and environmentally innocuous.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a surface coating sliding member made of rubber or plastic applied with a coating of excellent durability and high sliding property, in which the coating contains a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide and a resin matrix, wherein the resin matrix comprises a fluoro-olefin vinyl ether polymer resin and/or fluoro-olefin vinyl ether vinyl ester copolymer.
Abstract:
An electrorheological material comprising a carrier fluid and an atomically polarizable particle component. The atomically polarizable particle component has a crystalline lattice structure which allows atoms to shift position with respect to each other in response to the application of an electric field. The electrorheological materials are subjected to an alternating current electric field at a frequency of at least 500 Hz. The materials exhibit substantial electrorheological activity over a broad temperature range.
